Original: Can you feel the love tonight?

Postby LionessJhr13 » July 18th, 2013, 8:04 am

I just found the original version of "Can you feel the love tonight?". I did my best to write the lyrics down below, warning: spoiler alert!! If you haven't seen it there's a link to a full version here (the actual song starts at 16:44): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkU8qH1pmO4

Lyrics (I did my best to write down what they said, I had trouble with Nala's verse though; can't understand this actress's accent very well):

SIMBA & NALA:
Can you feel the love tonight?
Won't you stay to see?
Stealing through, the night's uncertainties
True for you and me

NALA:
Somewhere there's a reason, why I have to go
Keep away from this star-crust forager, that I don't want to know

SIMBA:
Never trust the future
Never miss the past
If you live for the shining moment
The moment may just last!

SIMBA & NALA:
And can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
Can you feel the love tonight?

NALA:
Can you feel the love?

SIMBA & NALA:
Won't you stay to see?

SIMBA:
Won't you stay to see!

SIMBA & NALA:
Stealing through, the night's uncertainties
True for you and me
Stealing through, the night's uncertainties
Enough for you and me

Thanks for reading!

Yeah, this is quite a famous version. For a while, because of its longer length, I actually liked it more than the movie version. Although now, I think I like the movie version the best, as it incorporates elements from most of the proposed and scrapped versions of the song, including this one.

I don't think there's any reason to put a spoiler alert for this song as most of us already heard it. Still nice to see the lyrics for it though; they add quite a nice touch.

Everything about this version of the song is better than the movie version, in my opinion. It's too bad the recording quality of this one sucks, though.

You also have to remember that this version is far closer to the version that Elton John first created. Not only are the lyrics much more similar than his version that you can find on the soundtrack CD (CYFTLT version #1), but spiritually it's closer as well. He originally wanted the song to be about Simba and Nala falling in love, without Timon and Pumbaa or even that third, non-character singer.

This song has went through a lot of changes, and I'm sure I got most of them in this short essay I wrote last year about it:

I love the movie version (although I wouldn`t have minded Timon and Pumbaas part being cut out) but I really love Simbas verse here too.

It's awesome! Simba's lines were awesome and I loved Nala's behavior. Popped out my eyes and kept my mouth open :D

Spoiler: show
So the YT link takes you to watch "Making of the Lion King Part 3" instead?!? *Image*
Though, I wouldn't mind watching this and the whole thing. Image

There is another Youtube video that directly shows this CYFTLT version, this topic's about. Moka posted links to all the song versions he found in this thread, along with this one. I'll follow suit with another link I found to this original, that can be played all the way up to 1080p quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVjAfJGbXdQ
The sound quality for that YT link is fine. Only thing? Video quality is somewhat sacrificed... But, never-the-less. Image

As far as the instrumentals go, I like it more than the movie version. I honestly think the piano is right on cue with the feeling/flow of this version (and I use to play the piano when I was much younger, and I Don't think Elton John's recorded version is that great); as much as the feeling is unique.

Only question I have on this topic is, did Elton John do the piano tune in this version too?
