A few questions about Scar

I just want to stress that I agree that Scar was not friends with the hyenas (but as cub I could see that). I think Muffy would see Scar 'fraternizing' or 'associating' with the Hyenas as being bad anyway.

I don't think anyone thought that Scar was evil. It's clear that Scar wasn't exactly on the best of terms with Mufasa's pride, as he kept his distance from them, but they were obviously caught off guard by his plot. Even after he took over the pridelands, they still trusted him enough not to revolt, until Simba returned.

From Scar's perspective, I don't think he liked anyone. He seemed not to care about the hyenas too much, and they were the ones that were actually on his side.
Question. Pardon my ignorance but was it ever stated that Mufasa knew that Scar was 'friends' with less desirables? I am quite certain that the lionesses did not know that Scar was not in league with the hyenas until after Mufasa's death. Maybe it was a rumor before death?

Anyone?
I don't know, actually. I was only pointing out that Scar used the hyenas, he wasn't exactly friends with them. Whether or not their alliance was public, up until Mufasa's death, is pure speculation.
In the movie, it isn't stated or mentioned whether or not anyone knew Scar knew the hyenas or not, but I believe its strongly implied they did not.

To me, I think the most logical conjecture is that no, the pride did not, because the lionesses seemed horrified and surprised when the hyenas appeared on stage after Scar took the throne, and because Mufasa did not seem to make a connection between his brother and the hyenas attacking his son in the Elephant Graveyard (Scar talks to hyenas-->hyenas attack my kid-->???).

One can argue if they wanted that Mufasa let the hyenas go with a warning *because* he knew they knew his brother, of course, but mostly I think it would just make Mufasa REALLY slow/thick to not connect the dots and implicate his brother in the incident had he known Scar associated with them.

That's in canon movie world.

If you add TLK6NA subcanon world, though, in that case Yes, Ahadi and Mufasa DID know that Scar associated with the hyenas. Not only Rafiki but other animals tell them this in at least 2 instances.

So maybe Mufasa really was just not the brightest bulb in the litter, who knows :P

Edit: Uhm...right, the OP question. I think Scar thought Nala was just another annoying kid, and probably would have thought Rafiki was the provence of the shiny happy people crowd to be avoided and despised, as well.

^That is a very astute observation, cleargreenwater! The possibility that Mufasa knew but chose to look the other way about the Hyenas and his brother. It would make him a flawed character, so flawed that it cost him his life. Hmmm.

Scar was just cold towards everyone in the pride. I mean he didn't mix with the lionesses because Scar closest companions were the hyenas. As he had more in common with them, all the pridemembers adored Mufasa. Scar did not, he hated his brother, so stayed away from the others. Scar was a loner, and liked it that way. Scar just used the hyenas really, they were his only chance of taking over the pridelands. He just promised them with a endless supply of food, which didn't work out of course. The only reason Scar was in the pride was because as the kings brother he's still a prince. He would get food from the lionesses, No way would the hyenas share or hunt food for him. Also Mufasa liked his brother, even though even if there was friction between them at times. Mufasa just let him stay, he was a good king. Yeah Scar was disliked by the others during Mufasa's reign and even more so after it.

I don't think Nala was going to be Scar's queen. I mean I think the only reason why he kept her in the pride was because she is no fret. She isn't royal born 'heir to the throne'. She was only bethroved to the future king- Simba. The broadway production just changed things up so it isn't offical. Also Scar probably didn't want to get caught out by the lionesses if he killed Nala. That would show his true colours. He allowed her to stay, grow up and become another lionesses servant to him, and the hyenas. Rafiki well he just stayed out of it all really, Scar was the king no one knew Simba was alive. They must obey their king including Rafiki. It doesn't mean they have to like their king though. Plus Scar doesn't believe in the circle of life well being of other animals. Rafiki was like spirtiual teacher/introduced new lion heirs and also a good friend of Mufasa. So no need for Rafiki during Scar's reign.

I personally believe that Scar isolated himself away from the rest of the pride. I question about this before Simba was born, but he could have probably interacted with the other lioness at least a few times, but not much. Rafiki would annoy Scar and Nala was just Simba's childhood friend, so he didn't really have that many thoughts about her.
