As for the end scene with Pumbaa and the hyenas, it is a parody/reference from the movie Taxi Driver, in which Pumbaa is playing off of the quote that Robert De Niro's character stated in the movie Taxi Driver, minus all the profanity of course. :)
True, but the line, "They call me, MISTER PIG", was a parody of the line, "They call me, MISTER Tibbs", from In the Heat of the Night.

As for the pig topic, I noticed that about a month ago, and wondered about that. :? But, as Kiara's Mate, it was a pop culture reference only meant to be a joke. Though, I would call it a minor plot hole in an otherwise perfect movie.

^ Yeah, it`s always annoyed me because I didn`t know about/understand the reference. The line in Norwegian makes more sense, but the reference is gone, lol.

The way I see it, it's just Disney's attempt to keep the adult audience entertained, since I'd imagine for some parents who brought their kids to see the movie, it would be less entertaining to watch a movie that was just purely geared towards kids. I know a lot of the jokes/references probably went right over the heads of the younger audience, and it does seem a bit out of place at times, but I think TLK does a better job than most kids movies, when it comes to keeping the older audience just as enthralled as the younger viewers, so I welcome the nods to various pop culture thrown in here and there throughout the film.

I must agree with PK that the norwegian version does make more sense. However, despite that I never really paid any attention to it. I guess in a kid's point of view, as already stated, friends can pretty much call you whatever they want and you would still love them. But if someone else did it then it was just downright rude.

Funny about the references though. I never knew about that. Thanks KM :)

I learned that the "They call me Mr. Pig!" line is indeed a reference to In the Heat of the Night. But of you really want an explanation, I never considered it a plot-hole. I always thought that Pumbaa simply allows his friends to 'insult' him by calling him things like pig, and with Timon "This stinks!" from the Can You Feel The Love Tonight intro. Pumbaa didn't get offended in these cases. When Simba called him a pig, Pumbaa was simply 'reminded' of who he was. And with Timon's case, Pumbaa wasn't offended, and if anything, Timon was because Pumbaa didn't get the point of the situation: "Not you! Them!"

But if you are not a friend of Pumbaa's, then beware of what you call him. So when the hyenas called him a pig, Pumbaa went over the edge, and rather quite berserk. Like Timon commented in the same scene: "Uh oh, you called him a pig."

This is why friends like Simba and Timon can get away with calling Pumbaa names: Becasue they are his friends. But for everyone else, Timon can become one nasty piece of warthog.

Lol, I do that too XD I don't think Pumbaa felt insulted because Simba said it in a humorous tone and Simba is his friend.
