Was Simba and Nala's romance rushed?

Postby Misiziri » September 1st, 2011, 8:15 pm

Many say they felt the romantic interests of Simba and Nala were rushed. Opinions on this?

Yep, it's probably one of the few things that bother me... They got together, "dated", and had an argument/broke up in the same freaking day. Like ConfusedMatthew said... it's like a sped up relationship.

I agree. It just didn't bother me in the least because a nice little song was provided. I'd like to think the song at least spans a few days, similar to Hakuna Matata.

Yes, it was way too rushed! At the beginning of the movie, they thought getting married was sick. And then after they found each other a long time later, they literally had a cub a few days later...

There is a topic similiar to this asking why did Simba and Nala fell in love with each other. Anyway, the romance wasn't rushed at all. I thought the reason why they fell in love with each other because they haven't seen each other in a long time, and while they're catching up with each other, a romantic interest may have sparked. And about when they were cubs, they were young so they probably didn't understand the concept of true love. I remember when I was young, and that I cringed at the idea of being married. But, as I'm getting older, I'm comfortable with the idea of falling in love and getting married. It's called maturity.

And, Scargirl, they didn't have a cub within a few days. Usually, a lioness is pregnant with a cub for at least 3 months.

TheLionPrince said it all. I don't feel Simba And Nala's Romance was rushed because, it was kind of always there waiting for Simba And Nala to realize it. Also take into account unparalleled joy of seeing someone you cared for that you never got tell how you really felt and (particularly from Nala's perspective) thought you never would. It is no surprise that when their spark ignited, it ignited big time.

Are some scenes rushed? Yes. But I think that the scene of Simba and Nala falling in love was done so well, it doesn't feel rushed. Sure, it would have been better if they added some of the extra scenes that didn't make it into the final movie, but the end product is still excellent. To be honest, the only scene that feels rushed to me is Scar's takeover. But other than that, the entire movie has an excellent sense of pacing.
