Ask The Character Threads - (suggestion)

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!

WS, those examples have nothing to do with what we're talking about in this topic. I guess I should have requested relevant examples.

Mike: We're not going to accept one thread over the other because the purpose isn't being fulfilled. We have an easy-to-understand, catch-all rule on which thread takes precedence over the other.

WS: I don't understand how this could be an issue...ever? Whoever makes the ask topic obviously paid the most attention to when it was available to make. When they leave, and the topic hasn't been posted in within 30 days, the next person who deserves it the most will make it and so on and so on circle of life sort of thing.

Yes, but is that fair at all for a member who just recently joined, and all the topics are taken up? Surely they couldn't of payed attention to it whilst they weren't here. Sorry, but I'd still say that there should be a limit. I didn't think it'd be that big of a dead, considering it would make things a little more fair. This should be all about a fun time, and this could affect someone having fun.

I don't see that as an issue, since there are only like five more characters that could be made.

If one or two people got in charge of all the threads it still wouldn't be a problem because nobody is entitled to having an ask thread. And nothing says one person can't have a lot. Putting rules on the threads people are allowed to have and run will only discourage activity and make things less active and therefore less fun. No one has complained about not having an ask thread, so can we please stop debating this in circles?

So the red tape overrides the spirit of the forum. That's something I always tried to avoid.

Exactly. The spirit of the forum, to me, in this case, seems much more important than putting a rule in place that has already been established as unnecessary and, in the long run, hurtful.

WS, 1000 members simply cannot all have chances at answering for 30 or so characters. Also, new members will have their chance eventually if they stay vigilant and keep track of which topics are becoming inactive.

If we want to let everyone and everyone answer as a character, we could engineer a new way of doing this.

Perhaps instead of one person being in charge of the thread, we do this:
Whoever answers the question must then ask another question. Then, another poster can answer that question and ask another question. This way, everyone has the chance to ask and answer questions.

Mike, anyone can be snide :P give us your suggestions.
If a duplicate thread can be made within the 30 days.. then how come my "Ask Simba" topic got locked? Amanda hadn't updated hers in a while, so I thought I'd make a new one. Can someone tell me why it was locked? I know it was a duplicate topic, but Amanda's hadn't been updated.
Is that not a valid enough complaint, with proof? The first link is the last post AMANDA - THE THREAD OWNER made in that topic, before SM made her post. The second link is SM's new thread. The quote is the complaint about it. This still unjust. Because technecally that topic was NOT being used by the person who made it. Therefore it was unfair for SM, because you closed her topic, when obviously it had falled, and the owner had not much a reason to come back, until she realized about SM's topic.

And it's not making it any less fun limiting the ammount you can have. You can have fun without owning 10 character topics. I would think most would love just having two. It would make the forum a little bit more generous then it is currently.

*facepalm*

ookaay what the hell did we reach 6 pages of this? o.O I said in my first post that this was completely unnecessary... I'm not sure what exactly the problem is. If an ask topic you want is run by someone else just ask them. jesus..

WS, again, the rule says nothing about the topic OWNER posting in within 30 days, just the last post itself. I say for the third time, SM's topic was locked rightfully under our rule. All it takes is a PM to the topic owner. A friendly reminder.

That's actually not that bad of an idea Moka. There's nothing bad in having more then one person asking in a thread. The only thing I would say that could be bad out of that is that the threads could get a little unorganized.
