Ask The Character Threads - (suggestion)

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!

I agree with Snowy. These "Ask" threads aren't dens - anyone can make them and no one is guaranteed one. We don't need to go about making rules for such threads and dividing and distributing them among all active members. Remember, there's reason they were placed in the Arcade. If you want one so badly why not just contact whoever it is you feel has too many ask threads privately? If you find they are being unreasonable just contact someone in the staff. There's no need to impose any new rules.

I guess I'm kind of in between. I agree with KM, Shnow, and Pandabear. To KM's train of thought---it is kind of monopolized, and let's face it, if you were a new member that wanted to try an 'ask' topic, or even just a more shy member, you're probably not going to PM the typically rather prestigious members that own those topics saying "hey can i take over your ask topic?'.

However, I also agree with Snow in that I suppose nobody has really voiced concern about the issue, although it could be because of the reason above. Also, I think the rather specific rule set that you suggested KM may be just a bit overboard... perhaps a more casual way to distribute them, like just a '2 person limit' or something like that? I don't think the time limit or some of the other restrictions are really necessary.

@Panda, I don't believe everyone can make them, since they've essentially all been made except incredibly obscure characters. Neh?

That's just my two cents, hopefully sinking into the fountain of caringness. I think maybe having a limit of the number of topics that one person can have would be the easiest and fairest way to do this so that everyone has a chance. I don't want to make a big deal out of nothing, but I've seen at least a few people in this topic that believe this is important, so we can't really just choose to ignore it, can we? Either way, there's no need to fight about it or get riled up--it's ultimately the staff's call in any event.

I don't think we need this, it is best to let people make as many topics as they want

How can you say 'let members make as many topics as they want', when there's only so many ask threads that can even be made? the idea here is to introduce some rules of sorts to help for this very reason.

I believe our current rule regarding duplicate topics covers what you're proposing:
Members are allowed to create duplicate topics only if the topic they are replicating has not been active in 30 days (posted in within 30 days).
In this case, if an ask topic goes inactive for 30 days, a member can create a new one. This does two things: 1.) it makes sure the ask topics remain active and 2.) it makes sure a diverse amount of members have the possibility to create ask topics. It all depends on who is paying attention when the thread gets inactive, that person will probably be the person that wants it the most and deserves it the most, right?

So I don't see any changes to the rules yet that need to accommodate the ask the character topics.

But are we all as outgoing as you? =P

Moka--I agree with that on a principle level, but if you check the new posts, it's almost always full of the 'ask' topics--I don't feel like many are going to suddenly die for a month any time soon.

The only problem I see with the current way of enforcing it, is if a topic does go active... and the same person is making it over and over again, and it keeps going inactive... it doesn't even have to be the same person, but if they already become inactive, and continue time and time again, couldn't this eventually get that board a tiny bit... scrambled?

I actually don't think KM's idea was half bad, it's just a little more percise then it needs to be. But on a basic level, I would have to agree with it, because it would help organization better, in case a problem of the sort does arise. Plus it's a little odd making a duplicate topic... someone always notices, and points it out. Even if it's inactive, someone will point it out. This would rule would work if you had an archieve area or something to sort out the dead, unused threads.

If a duplicate thread can be made within the 30 days.. then how come my "Ask Simba" topic got locked? Amanda hadn't updated hers in a while, so I thought I'd make a new one. Can someone tell me why it was locked? I know it was a duplicate topic, but Amanda's hadn't been updated.

Coz all it took was one pm to get me started again. :P Maybe you should of told the staff to lock my thread first before posting yours because otherwise it is considered a duplicate. Anyhow it's been taken care of.
