Need For Speed

Need For Speed

Postby DGFone » September 8th, 2011, 6:12 pm

The topic for the most iconic arcade racing game.

I myself enjoy the classical NFS games, where instead of modifying regular boring cars, you get to drive exotics like Ferraris, Lambos, and the McLaren F1. While I can't play Need For Speed 4: High Stakes (my favorite in the series) because the CD is scratched and won't install properly, I still play NFS World, a F2P racing MMO.

World in my opinion is a kind of compromise between the classical NFS and the Underground era, where you modify boring cars, or you can also drive exotics to some extent. To make myself enjoy World even more, I listen to the music from High Stakes. This combination works out very well. And the graphics are very good: Mostly photo-realistic with some artistic variation to compensate for technological limitations and plain old fun over realism. Although I would prefer a more realistic physics model.

If that were the case, this would be the Burnout thread =P

Nah Need For Speed is okayish, I just have not played it since Underground 2 because I think the one after that was NFS Wanted and I did not like it, and have not liked it since >.>.

I like NFS games. I've played a few, but at the moment I have NFS: Most Wanted, NFS: Carbon (PC) and NFS: Hot Pursuit (XBox 360)

I so far from these 3 played games, I like NFS: Carbon, I don't know why, but maybe because it's a bit better for me, I always win, lol.

Bump. Not really, with my computer upgrade, NFS World runs smooth as silk now. :)

All of you who names Burnout as a great racing game: Normally I would say yes, but Burnout is more of am arcade crash simulator than a racing title.

Which is why when NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 was released (made by the Burnout team), it was well received, but one of the more hated features (which can't be turned off, by the way), was the epic slow-mo crash camera. You will race, someone will crash themselves to death, and then you will promptly crash after that becasue the camera messed you up at a vital moment.

Crashes happen. So what? When I race, let those who crash crash. Just let me keep driving. :P

I've only played Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.

It sucked.

But I've heard most of the games in the series are really good, so I'm gonna try them. :D

Need for Speed World is free!

It's an MMO, but I don't play it as such. In fact, if you read the reviews, you will find out that the MMO aspect of World is rather lacking. But I don't care, it's a decent racing game. :D

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit is one of the best games I've ever played. My brothers and I worked together to acquire the bonus cars and the Empire City track. Ahh, the nostalgia.

The MMO aspect of NFSW is indeed lacking. I like it anyways though! I don't always need to be playing with/against others while I race cars online.
