Okay, this might offend some fans, so please do not read this if you're easily offended. This is a more of a review.
When I first heard of Avatar, I was like "Ugh, another plain 3D movie that has some cheesy love plot, I guess". I saw posters all around the place and became sick of even hearing about this movie. Everyone is school was talking about it like it was some kind of drug.
Last summer, I was in a DVD store with a friend, and she wanted to buy Avatar. I rolled my eyes, but when I saw the director, I became more motivated to watch it, having watched and loved "Titanic", and got even more excited when I heard that James Horner composed the music. In the end, we decided to buy it and see how it turns out.
We stopped watching at the first 15 minutes. Yes, I'm serious. We got so bored out of our minds, and we kept asking each other "What's going on?".. And you knew that it would just be another "Pocahontas" movie, only with humans and aliens this time. The CGI was admirable, I must say, and the music was indeed good. But I felt as if I had already watched the movie, and so did my friend. I So we stopped.. and she told me she wanted to gift me the movie so she wouldn't have to tell her mother she wasted her money on that, so I just agreed.
Today, I got motivated to watch this movie again because I was curious to see why people are so fond of it. I watched it all.. and it felt like 2 and a half hours of torture to me. Technically, it was a mix of "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" and "Pocahontas", at least to me. The plot was unoriginal and there was no character development at all. It wasn't the least bit emotional to me. The only reason I watched it until the end was because I wanted to see if I would change my mind about the movie. I really didn't. In the end, I asked myself "Is that the same James Cameron that made "Titanic"?" I don't understand why people like it so much.
I'm sorry if I offended any of the fans by this, but I just felt like I needed to let this out. Please don't take it personally, and I understand if you have a different opinion about this movie.
