For or against Gay Marriage

If I may ask, when the United States across the board approves of gay marriage, will this lead to having polygamy, bigamy, and have transexual marriage legalized? If so, I will expect more confusion on how these family structures will operate (and provide for the child(ren), which is another why I don't support gay marriage.

Um, I don't see how allowing people to marry someone of the same sex will lead to those others, and besides, transexuals can already get married, because they have changed sexes and can marry the sex they used to be. There is no law against that. Furthermore, the children in these family structures would be provided for the same way other children are. Their parents will get jobs, make money, and buy the things the children need.

So the approval of homosexual marriage could lead to those other events you mentionned? Following that logic, I could say people shouldn't drink alcohol because it will lead them to start smoking marijuana, then they would start becoming violent and then, finally, they would take drugs and their condition would worsen... In debates, this kind of statement is called the "downslope effect argument" and does not represent a valid argument since it is not based on true and valid facts but on false assumptions.

Ask for opinions -> State there's only one right opinion and call anyone who believes differently "deluded", "bigoted zealots", "sickening", etc, scaring them away from actually posting their views. Now there's a way to debate!

The poll question should be changed to: Are you, in general sense tolerant to other human beings?

There is quite a big line between subjects that ARE actually debatable and things that are ridiculous. Everyone has tolerance, however some of us ignore it.

I respect the opinion of others, right up to the point where it starts discriminating or hurting other people.

How can anybody deny two people the right to lead their own lives with their own choices? There's something called free will, and people have the right to exercise this right as long as it isn't harming anyone. Is gay marriage going to harm anyone? No, it isn't. Marriage is the celebration of love between two people; it shouldn't make a difference who these people are.

Isn't this a bit of a trivial matter anyway? Why are there arguments about whether or not two people have the right to marry when we could, and should, be focusing on things that are a danger to everyone? Things like terrorism, disease and racism. If marriage makes two people happy, I don't see why we're interfering with it.

It's gross! We used to have a law against homosexuality, long ago, people would be killed for it! Also-read about Sodom and Gomorrah in the bible. They could at least keep it to themselves without advertising it in public and putting it in almost every tv show and movie. Humans are made so that we could reproduce with others of the OPPOSITE sex, not the same. We are not made to be queer. Even evolutionists can't ignore that :-p

That's a very narrow-minded view on life. The meaning of life isn't simply to reproduce. Humans also have things called emotions. We have the capability to love anyone, and human rights state that nobody should be able to stop us from doing so. Some same-sex couples would like to express their love through marriage and there's no reason for us to stop them doing this.

They were fine with "partners", they can "express their love" that way too. And I'm aware of that emotion called "love", most people are. If everyone took their time to properly find it, we wouldn't have so many divorces or gay unions.

In other words, the Bible is the most hypocritical piece of writing there has ever been. It says God gave everyone free will, yet the Bible persecutes gay people. Sure, I'll admit there are some good moral teachings in there, but they're nothing more than stories with no solid evidence to back them up.
