As if England possibly needs any more taxes; I say 90 through one's own charitable donation.
I guess you guys fall in the middle: you don't have strong enough feelings to go one way or another without understanding the exact specifics.
Mainly because I don't think giving food to those who need it really helps all that much,* and not because I care about people whining about taxes when they are affordable.

*I do not mean that in a misanthropic way. I mean, in order to feed people, some other life form must die. In the end, everything dies anyway. It's the circle inferno of life. It's just part of nature. Not to mention everything I have already said before. Trying to prevent starvation is impossible anyway. But, go ahead, call me a jerkface anyway.

We all know that this is really about the American Presidential race, so I'm going to post this here:

America formed as the land of the free. Having someone else tell me what I am going to do with my money is *not* freedom. Add the two together.

Not for me it's not; I don't live in America.

DGFone, you forget that our whole country is founded on hypocrisy. :P

I am serious, though.

Mhm and I wouldn't want anyone to tell me how to spend my money if they didn't know how to handle money theirselves.

We can also look at it this way: Where does the responsibility lay? When you donate somewhere, you yourself are making sure that you know where the money ends up. Meaning that if you donate to a charity that ends up being some criminal gang, it's your fault for not doing proper research into said charity.

On the other hand, if it's a tax, it's hands off to the government. It will take care of you, your money, and what happens to it. If you mess up, the government will make it all work out in the end. The government is responsible, not you.

Well I don't want that. I want to be responsible for what I do. I am not going to become another statistic in some office.

I just find it hard to believe that someone who understands the significance of the Apollo moon landings doesn't understand the importance of giving funding to such programs. The money for those fancy rockets doesn't just grow on trees. We pay for it, with taxes.

And I think it's worth it. :)

Yeah, and that's where a tax went to good use, and it payed off in dividends. (and it will continue paying off)

But building rockets is one thing. Fixing roads is another.
