An announcement from Disney!

Ah right yeah, I was going off the basis that (most) people would be watching the film in their room or something =D. But yeah if its going to be a family thing I would opt for something like that ^^. We got a 42" one downstairs and 32" for the upstairs rooms, our house is tiny =P anything bigger than 32" looks huge.
You will also need a HDMI cable, and goggles ^^ but if you are spending that much on a TV, I doubt that will be an issue in comparison ;]

That is a good alternative for those who just plan on using their 3D TV for gaming and personal use. I can't picture a family gathering around a 24inch 3D TV though to watch a movie together. lol. I have my eyes set on this here.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+65%22+ ... 6342&st=LG 3D HDTV&cp=1&lp=6

I figure, if I'm going to upgrade to a 3D TV, it might as well be worth it for everyone who comes over to use it too. 24 inches of screen real-estate just doesn't seem like it would do TLK in 3D justice. Or maybe I just like my TVs ginormously huge. Either way though, I'm glad the PS3 is already set to play 3D content, so at least I save a little money from not having to go out and buy a 3D ready Blu-Ray player on top of that bankrupting 3D TV.[/quote]

But it's $4.5 GRAND!!!! :-o
WHO HAS THAT KING OF MONEY!!?

No really, that is why I keep telling everyone to wait to get their 3D TVs: HD is still rather new (HD is anything 720p and above) and many people actually consider getting HD TVs as an upgrade. If you want a 3D TV that will last to a while, wait a few years. Not to mention, Hollywood still doesn't know how to film in 3D properly. What's the point of having a 3D TV if everything you watch makes your eyes bleed? Last time I checked in the real world, far away hills are not 3D, but 2D. Remember: 3D is still in it's infancy.

Not to mention, am I the only person here concerned that The Lion King, a 2D animated film, is being released for 3D? After all: how 3D can you get with pieces of paper (how 2D animation is made)? I'd hate to see TLK 3D if it looks like papers at various distances apart. Then it will look... bad.

@KiarasMate:
Have you ever thought of getting an 3D-Projector? If you have space for it, it might be an alternative. And I also think they don't cost over $4000 :O
Only con might be that they are not for daily use.

I have looked into those too. It all depends on where I move to, and what the room set up is like I suppose. That would be freakin' awesome though, to be able to have TLK in 3D, literally on the big screen at home. :)

Also keep in mind that the industry is trying very hard to get away from goggles, and any head-ware for that matter. And when scinetists claim that polarized goggles are not the way to go... be cautious.

Well to be honest, its cheaper to buy one of those than it would be for my family to take a holiday to America for a couple of weeks, if you can budget your money and save it, its affordable.
Disney is one of the world leaders in animation, I am pretty sure they can convert a film into 3D successfully, it will look fantastic in 3D or 1080P, my PS3 upscales the DVD version to 1080P and looks very nice as is, so in native 1080P it will look lovely. (Most HDTV will do 1080P standard now). And besides, even IF glasses-less 3D does become available, would the films not have to be released once again to support it?

Well although it's a little bit off-topic: I tried avatar in 3D on a 3D-TV, and actually it worked pretty well. But I guess it's because avatar had this special and new way it was filmed..
So... Hopefully Disney doesn't ruin the film with bad 3D-Effects..

I'm also a bit confused as to how it's possible to convert 2D to 3D, but then again I'm not the expert, they are. I can only hope & pray that the result turns out good and that this format does the film justice. I like to think that they wouldn't risk releasing it unless they were fairly certain that it'd turn out good but I might be wrong.

I am looking forwards to The Lion King in 1080P and surround sound (by the way, anything short of native HD will look bad. Upscaling simply makes the pixels bigger -> pixelated images). But I don't want TLK to look like this: (2D planes in a 3D space).

So in the end, I decided to cancel the box set and just get the 2 disc TLK combo. No packaging plus a bunch of discs (the 3D and digital copy) that I'll never use factored in.

I'll try to see if someone eventually sells their Simba's Pride and 1 and a 1/2 discs separate on EBay lol.
