A) It's basically the brainchild of Lauren Faust who isn't a Hasbro marketing robot, she's legitimate and creative with an impressive track record. She's proven more so than anyone I've ever seen that she cares deeply about the fans to the point of adopting fan-made personalities like Derpy Hooves.

B) Apart from featuring characters for which toys exist, it in no way endorses or recommends buying Hasbro products (Is Halo marketing since it has a merchandise EMPIRE of books, expansions, toys, action figures, etc). Continued beeloooww!

C) Now that the shows producers (AKA Lauren Faust) clearly know that its fanbase consists of so many 16-25 males, can you really say it's still aimed at young girls? And can it be considered 'a marketing stab' when they know that the 18-25 fanbase, for the most part, won't buy Hasbro products?

If you read the interview with her, posted a few pages back. She did say that although she did not want it to appear to be target at young girls, the show went through changes that although she resented, still had to be made and so it appears to be aimed at girls. (She had planned for more male characters, for instance).
In fact, maybe young girls, is a bit of a generalisation, but girls nonetheless.

Again though, there is nothing wrong with liking something not aimed at your gender / age. You can admit something is aimed at girls and still like it. I mean The Lion King is clearly primarily aimed at young children, but I will never let that stop me from loving the film as a 20 year old male. It is like primarily listening to hip hop, but liking some heavy metal songs, it is not aimed at you but that does not mean you would be a fool for liking them, it just means you are able to choose for yourself what you like and not.

As for that Halo example, they market the games, which in turn make a fan base for the other merchandise to sell to. With MLP, the fact it has a lot of fans from the internet and all the memes, means it does not have to advertise. Because you people, with your avatars, sigs, forums, bringing up MLP in places it ought not to be bought up, you advertise it for them. For example, I started watching it when SimbaGamer told me about it. The best form of advertising, is free advertising, kindly provided to them by you people and the internet. But if it did NOT catch on as an internet trend, the show would have been a marketing tool for kids to buy the toys, and thus I will treat it as such.

Aaand, now that I think about that, is that any reason to not like a show? All products exist to sell and market themselves. That's the definition of a product. If it's a brainless advertisement, sure, that's a problem. But MLP clearly isn't. So again... you just hate the idea of it, not the actual show? :3

I am admitting it has evolved into more than what it was intended / expected to be, that is the point I just spent about 3 paragraphs explaining. But I am not disliking it because of that, I am disliking it because it sucks.

I guess there's nothing to argue there. I'm somewhat funked out that you stopped liking it simply because it got popular, though. (or so I understand from a previous post) I was pretty ticked to come back and find every single person on MLK rocking MLP avs/sigs too, but that didn't affect my opinion of the show. ;3

I never really did like it, that is why I stopped watching it about 13 episodes in. I liked Rainbow Dash though, which is why she was my signature / avatar for a short while. But then I stopped watching it, and read cupcakes so now, not so much lol.
Plus this is a Lion King forum, after all... So figured I would have something relating to TLK instead XD
