the fact that there keep comming more and more earthquakes and other natural disasters catches my eyes as well. its almost like the world is about to change, or something bad is gonna happen soon. I'm not a ''doomsday'' prophet, but I just feel that this planet is getting worser and worser.

Why do we build cities on places where there is a high risk of earthquakes

Eruptions, earthquakes. It has all been happening on this planet for the last 6 billion years. Those are all endotermic forces on which we humans have no effect at all. Just because earthquakes hit big cities now does not mean that we are suddenly having more earthquakes. There have always been earthquakes, now they hit big cities, it is completely random. So we are not having more earthquakes. Those are endogenic forces, they dont get worse or better. They are always the same.

Why don't we build giant floating cities on the ocean?

well it shocked me how a while back, a very light earthquake was felt somewhere between the border of germany and holland. there shouldn't even be any earthquakes here because as far as we know, there isn't any fault line here. :S and what you said is true perhaps, there have always been earthquakes. but it just catches my eye that more and more earthquakes are taking place in or NEAR cities.

Earthquakes in the Netherlands are not caused by plate-tectonics (fault lines). They are caused by the winning of natural gas in the north or they are caused by the collapse of marl-stone in the south.

plate tectonics are NOT the only reason for earthquakes

Them taking place near cities is just a coincidence because all catastrophic earthquakes take place near fault lines.

Guess what.

Italy was hit by a 6.0 MG Earthquake early in the morning, just 3 miles under the surface.
