It's just a natural thing. It's called paralysis sleep http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis
Sleep Paralysis is different. That's where your brain wakes up before your body has a chance to, so your paralyzed for a temporary time.
Astral Projection is an out of body experiance.

Basically, it's what scientologists are trying to achieve. And for the people here being afraid of it just happening randomly, good luck on that one. Some people take 10's to 20 of years to reach this state, and even then it's hard to say whether is was all just a delusion or not. When someone is exposed to something so long, it tends to make them have hallucinations about it. Kind of like someone in jail is most likely to hallucinate that they're free... and the same reason why a person who lie's a lot will actually start to believe their lies.
I personally don't believe in Astral Projection really, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be possible, I just don't really find it likely.
first off im glad im not the only one who has experience with this so that makes me one happy chappy lion
but yeah as a spiritualist myself, i have often looked into things like this, different methods and ideas to see how far we can push or bodies and spirits. truth of the matter is its not an easy thing to to, yet i have done so before.
naturally when you sleep you have 'dreams'. to me it is your spirit somehow interaction with another world, or through time/dimensions as spirits are not held back by such things. when you wake you either remember such dreams/nightmares or simply forget about them but it is a bleed through effect. how else can you explain de ja vu? living an event you sure you have been through before
i have tried and tested many ideas to see if i could influence what happens when i sleep and.. well its interesting. ive found the best result for me is to kinda just meditate focus on nothing but becoming part of that spirit and see the world from those eyes instead. however on all the occasions i do such a thing depending what happens i either bolt awake in the middle of the night or wake up in the morning in extreme pain. doesnt last long but it enough to hurt like crazy
this of course is all just mostly theory on my part but it is what i have discovered and what i believe in. ill not bore you with details of what ive seen/been through here but pm me if you are
I think your talking about Lucid Dreaming? But I'm not exactly sure...
