Congrats, Nintendo. You've managed to match the performance of a computer that originally cost $300, 11 years ago, with a $180 handheld today.

Considering that the fat PS2 weighs just over 8lbs, and the 3DS weighs 8.1 ounces, we'll say that the 3DS has the same power, with 1/16th of the space. Following Moore's law, which states that the number of transistors on chips in integrated circuits doubles every two years, this should have been possible back in 2008. However, we also have to include the additional weight (and cost) from the two screens, and the built-in controls.

You are STILL missing the point; Nintendo consoles are not about hardware and performance or technology although Nintendo DOES increase the technical ouput gradualy with new consoles, its not at all the meat of their products.
What they offer is new, innovative ways to play the games. If I am not mistaken Nintendo were the first to attmept online connectivity on a console (it failed in technicolour glory, but hey)

Having touchscreens, motion controls, using the mic, overly simplistic interfaces, affordability. It's that which seperates Nintendo from competitors. Sure there is new hardware lightyears ahead of the where Nintendo is in terms of processing powers and such but no matter how pretty games get, Nintendo will still be the go to place for gameplay IMO.

Also, comparing the 3DS to a fully fledged high tech 3D set up is like comparing a Ford KA to *Insert stupidly expensive sportscar here*, and if you can't work out the difference still then there isn't enough time in Emmet Brown's workshop for me to explain it to you....

It's a nice console. It's an essential buy if you're a fan of DS games as, I think the older system will be discontinued now, and so, I suspect Nintendo will only be releasing games on the 3DS. The screen is larger and brighter than the original DS. Oh and of course, the games for it, are awesome! The battery life is pretty good, as well.

The only down fall? The 3D effects are god damn awful x.x It hurts your eyes like mad, doesn't even look that great and, you cannot look at it for no longer than say 10 seconds. Or at least I can't lol
