I loved the first movie, it was so emotional, yet it had no deaths. <3
Um, Tod's mother died off-screen in the very beginning, and the bear that Tod fought is implied to have died.
Anyway, I LOVE
The Fox and the Hound; it was one of my favorite movies when I was growing up. I adore how the film captures some areas in life like childhood, fitting in, falling in love, and friendship. It has a sad, tough-to-swallow message about two natural enemies who can't literally be friends because of how nature functions itself. I even found its storyline is similiar to
Ben-Hur, which is about two friends who become enemies.
As for
The Fox and the Hound 2 (which is really a midquel), it's not the flat-out worst of the Disney sequel series, but it had a predictable storyline, unmemorable music, and the animation is largely different to that of the original's. You need computers to thank for that! However, it has impressive voicework from the cast especially from the late Patrick Swayze, and was impressed the filmmakers could find child actors for Tod and Copper whose voices sound similiar to the ones in the original.
