They really aren't in any trouble financially. The 3DS is selling great, and the Wii U has a promising future. That being said, the Wii is now selling MUCH less than it had in it's peak. The peak was so high that now it looks like the average is bad.

Nintendo has nothing to worry about as long as the Wii U is a success. It doesn't even have to do as well as the Wii for them to keep up.

I wouldn't necessarily be so optimistic. Those are some pretty chunky losses even for a big company like Nintendo. And while they did do massively well on the Wii, numbers don't lie.

That being said, I hope they step up their game pretty darn soon. They've neglected to include a lot of things that more popular systems include like DVD player functionality, high def graphics, and a TV-oriented console with games that don't suck.

I was surprised when they finally switched to discs, and I'm talking about *normal* discs - full-sized compact discs (lol irony) with the Wii. And while the Wii was absolutely revolutionary for gaming, it was soon eclipsed by Microsoft and Sony in ways that incorporate similar technology into the already-surpassing systems they had at the time.

Nintendo is falling behind because their innovation is slowly but surely becoming less popular. They will have to cut the hipster attitude and start becoming more mainstream if they want to continue to exist as a company IMO.

Also remember that, when the Wii first came out, it was revolutionary with it's motion control. This enabled Nintendo to produce games that neither Microsoft nor Sony could match.

But now with the Xbox Kinect and PlayStation Move, Nintendo's competitors can release the same motion controlled games.

And with that, the Wii 64 simply can't compete. It's too weak hardware wise, and it doesn't have a proper controller for non-motion games. The Wii did really well when it had its own niche. But as soon as that niche got invaded by Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo simply wasn't able to keep up anymore.
