Need For Speed

Gran Turismo > Need for Speed

Don't get me wrong, I used to love the need for speed games. High stakes and hot pursuit 2 were some of my favorite games when I was younger. Although, after growing accustomed to the realistic physics in the Gran Turismo series, I'm never going back. :P

Yes, I know they're two completely different genres. Gran Turismo is a simulator, and NFS is more of an arcade type of game. But, honestly, GRID blows NFS out of the water in the arcade category. It's easy to learn, fun to drive, and the physics seem very realistic. The only thing is that you can decelerate ridiculously quickly, and take corners at greater speeds than you could in real life.

When I want to have a good race, I play GT5 online. When I want to screw around and be reckless, I play GRID.

Although, if it wasn't for NFS, the racing genre probably wouldn't be anything like it is now.

^ Glad you liked the classics! High Stakes is still my favorite of all time NFS game!

But as for realism, keep in mind that GT5 is a console game. Call me a troll, a PC lover/Console hater, whatever, but keep in mind that consoles are made to draw pictures, not make physics calculations. This means that yes, GT5 is far superior to NFS (although Shift 2 is supposed to be as good as GT5 in terms of realism), a PC dedicated racer will be much better every single time.

If you want true realism, I would recommend a game called Richard Burns Rally. Yes, it's an off-road racer, but it is real. There are also a few excellent on-road racing sims for the PC, assuming your rig (if you have one) can handle the strain.

The only reason why I play Need for Speed World is because RBR is a pain to install on my machine, and is in fact not yet installed. And when installed, it doesn't run that well. It suffers from a bug where scenery objects don't get rendered. But seeing as you can crash into scenery objects... game breaker. :(

I will agree that the PC is the superior platform. Open source for the win! :D

But, I don't know of any simulators of this generation that rival GT5, other than Forza and Shift. Heck, I've actually considered buying a 360 just to play Forza. I've never played Shift, but from what I've heard it isn't nearly as good.

In some ways, I think half of the reason why I love GT5 so much is because of how much I enjoyed playing high stakes. It's probably been at least 8 years since I last played it. I remember not being able to sleep one night because all I could think about was buying a new Jaguar. I remember getting so frustrated with that last event, with a whole bunch of Mercedes and McLaren races; I tried that a hundred times and only came in second place once. Those were some good times. It was totally worth not doing my homework.

^ Lol, my OS is Open Source (which is why RBR doesn't work that well)

I have to say, when I play Need For Speed World, it's the High Stakes soundtrack that I listen to...

But I have to agree that realism is far superior to the arcade physics of Need For Speed. Nothing feels real when you can make a right turn at a 100 MPH and crash into walls without worry.

My grandparents have a computer game of it called NFS: Hot Pursuit. (I haven't played it in years, though.) I remember it was fun!
I am also a big fan of: Phantom of the Opera, High School Musical, Harry Potter, Disney in general, Days of Our Lives, musicals in general, Dr. Seuss in general and the Grinch.
