The only thing I disliked about it were the darned birds going after the caterpillar :S That was too silly... The story had such a deep and wonderful message. It was distracting.

Disney used to put comic relief characters into their more serious films (like TLK and FaTH). Now since they don't have serious films, all the characters are comic relief and there's no contrast.

The contrast just didn't fit as well in fox and the hound though. There was no real reason for it. In TLK at least Timon and Pumbaa raised Simba and taught him some values.
