Hey everyone!
My name is Matt and I'm 21 and a senior in college. Though I was always fond of the original movie I have recently discovered something much deeper and meaningful about the story. Though I'm not sure if I have the time to get involved in another forum, more than anything I just want to express my passion for this movie where I won't be judged haha. I really should be studying now but I need to let this out!
Though the movie, start to finish, is beautiful and flawless there are two scenes that do things to my emotions I did not realize were possible. The first is Simba's bewildered face as his father's ghost emerges from the sky. As the son of a christian minister who never took any interest in the spiritual or supernatural, there is something ineffable about that moment. This is how I imagine religious experiences feel.
The second is Simba ascending Pride Rock after defeating Scar. The music (I revere Hans Zimmer) combined with the speechless, wonderstruck faces of his friends fill me with awe. The Lion King has recently convinced me that animated films can be just as profound, if not more profound than the most heart-wrenching live-action films. I think its animated anthropomorphic characters can convey something that the humans cannot, the transcendent fantasy world that disappears as we grow older.
Am I in the right place or should I find the closest psychiatric ward?
