In my view, when Scar took the place on the throne and became king, the animals of the savannah have been scared and they ran away. Which means the circle of life had been broken and that's what could explain the reason why lions don't find any food !
If the cercle of life doesn't continue to run properly, animals & vegetals are doomed to the extinction, which engender destruction of pridelands !
But that's just my opinion !
And who can pretend to be a king, with such blacks ideas that Scar ! Like every title, "parent" or "king", my parents always taught me : "You have to deserve it !"
Anyway, Simba is the king, and it can only have one king and one king only !!!
