I have just watched the documentary filmed by John Clunes about a lion called Mugie. I'm in absolute floods of tears and I hate poachers all the more now. I want to raise awareness of the long term effects on poaching in Africa today. First of all, animals are becoming endangered, such as rhinos, elephants and, of course, the lions. But the carcasses left by the hunters are attracting more hyenas than usual who have grown in population as the others have declined. These hyenas attack young lions such as Mugie, therefore decreasing the lion population even more. I would've loved a happy ending to the story, with a Pride centred around Mugie, but things in life don't always work out the way they should. However, I want lions to once again be widely spread in Africa as much as anyone of you would. RIP Mugie - may you live forever with George Adamson, father of the Born Free foundation and the Kampi ya Simba in Africa. |
