Perdut glanced up at his father, looking rather troubled and confused. "Dad? Why can't I be like you? Be a king..." Mahadu halted in his tracks and turned around. He had been anticipating the question to pop up sometime. He expected that his second son would eventually ask. It was an inevitability, after all. But he was sure that Perdut would understand. He gestured for his son to sit, and Perdut obeyed. Mahadu seated himself on the ground beside his son. "Son... you can't be king," he began gently, "because Angus is older." "But can't we rule together?" "No, son." As Mahadu expected, Perdut looked rather disappointed. "Am I not good enough?" he asked quietly. "No, of course not," Mahadu answered firmly. "That isn't the case, not at all. You are a wonderful cub, and I love you. Your mother loves you. Angus loves you." And Perdut brightened at that.
I actually don't know the exact reason why Angus was chosen to be king instead of Perdut. I recently skimmed through our roleplay and I'm pretty sure it was because Angus was older...? If I got it wrong, correct me and I'll edit the story. I hope I made them in-character enough too.
Also, it's very blatant and obvious, but I referenced one of your pictures in the dialogue of the little short story.
*crying noises* Why didn't I see this earlier? D: Thank you so so so much for this lovely gift, Iri! cx It's so perfect..
The main reason why Angus was chosen to be king instead of Perdut was in fact because he was older. There were other minor things, such as strength and more experience, though those tiny things still lead to the reason of him being older.
..I'm still crying of happiness right now. ;v; *hugs drawing*
