# Need to get this off my chest...

THIS IS FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE IN YOUR EARLY TEENS, OR EVEN YOUNGER, AND CLAIM THAT YOU'RE "BAD" AT ART.

*sends a glance towards a few particular people*

Heyo, so listen up. Twin here with your daily Public Service Announcement, which essentially is saying this.

There's a lot of young people on this FAA. More than I would've expected actually, given the age of people on the forum. I don't meet too many people in their preteens off of here and on the general Internets - I for one know that I wasn't doing too much online around that time. But you know, as much as you don't want to hear it from me, you guys are still, well, young. I know I was at your age.

I don't mean to make anyone uncomfortable here, but I just say this because I notice that I'm older than a lot of you, often by several years, which isn't something I'm used to. That's not a problem - what is a problem, though, and what I've been seeing some of you guys do, is how some of you in particular just really beat yourself up about your art.

I'm not going to call out names but I'm sure you know who you are.

I guess I'm just saying this as a reminder that you're still young. You might not think it, but you are. And really, you have to realize this and accept it. You all have a long way to go in terms of your artistic journey, and that's totally okay. I can absolutely guarantee you that Da Vinci didn't paint the Mona Lisa at 11, and Michelangelo didn't do any amazing Renaissance work at the age of 12. From what I've seen, you don't reach the upper echelon of your natural ability until you're in your twenties. Now granted, how much you practice factors hugely, but you guys, I can tell, practice a lot. If you keep it up then I know for a fact that you'll turn into amazing artists.

In the meantime, though, it's totally unfair to you to compare yourself to someone who's several years older. Saying, "well, I'm bad because x draws better than me" isn't a fair comparison if x is 25 and you're 11. For example, I know for a fact that several of the best artists on here (Nadra, Firestar, etc) are all in their twenties.

You're not even half their age. You can't make that comparison.

If you still don't believe me after all this, then I suppose I'll have to show you proof.

This is a picture I've uploaded recently that some of you might have seen and kind of shows where I'm at, art-wise.

And this is my first ever fan-art piece.

I did that second one at 13. There's not even three years difference here but you can see huge improvement (even though, if I'm being honest, I spent at least two of those years drawing hardly at all because of the fanfics I was working on). Even in terms of writing - a hobby which many people older than I am, both online and IRL, have told me I'm 'gifted' or 'talented' at - there's huge improvement. I almost can't even take my art or my writing from the age of 12 and 13 seriously, there's been that much change.

Using a tablet and a different art program (ie, not "MS Pain", which I used to think was the only way to do digital art) also helped a lot as well.

In short, I know I still have a long way to go, and personally I don't even think I'm that good yet. But who knows? If I draw a lot, as I intend to do, what's to say that my art won't still grow and change... and that, when I'm 19, the work that I'm doing will be even better than now?

I think the reason that this bugs me so much and why this is so important to me is because I would simply hate for any of you to become discouraged and give up on art because you think your work is bad or you 'weren't any good anyway'. There's not enough artists in the world and frankly, it would be an absolute shame to lose any one of you. To be honest, a lot of you are better than I was at your respective ages. So c'mon, guys. Could you be a little easier on yourselves, please? Is that too much to ask?

This is Twin finishing her Public Service Announcement. Pick your pencil or stylus or mouse or whatever you use back up, carry on, keep drawing, and have a great day.

~Over and out.

Truthfulness!
I will say some artist's here, their currently isn't really good. If you want to improve, look up anatomy to what you are trying draw some referencing, always give rightful stuff artist's ya base from, and draw till your heart stops.
This is me four years ago, in 9th grade.
http://www.mylionking.com/fan/art/Artis ... twork=4734
Got older stuff, but it's not loaded.
I actually got one pic, a pic I spent maybe 2 weeks on. Getting very little thing as close as I could. I got nothin for it. Yeah, it's kinda a bummer, but oh well. Are you personally proud of the image? That is what matters. Commishes, AT's and whatnot, th owner of the char used has some say. But I am talking. Did you enjoy it? Do you like yourself? Not do these people like it. I say screw that. Draw for yourself.
I agree with Rillianee. Ya don't need a tablet. I do have one, but only a a year now, and I actually don't use it very much. I do pencil and paper. How it started. I have the most experiance with it. I have tried mouse, I can't. But hey. That's doesn't mean other's can't. Rillianee here, and Mickiie on dA are two phenomal mouse users. It has impressed. But ya wanna how they got to this? They stuck to it. Didn't let other opinions get in their way. And PRACTICE!
The only way you will EVER GET GOOD at anything, is PRACTICE!

I know what other artist's feel. If ya feel discouraged. Try taking some time off. Try something else. Just don't go "I am not drawing anymore, I'm no good. people don't like my art." BS You should. Other people will and do. And yea, said this more than once, maybe twice already.
Don't let other people judge you for your art talent. Everything starts small, imperfect, full of errors, ignorant, lack of expeirence. To get better, big, near perfect as possible to yourself, epierenced and wise. Try drawing, put your emotion into action! That's the best way to draw. Use your emotion to stamp it into your pic. And try spending more time on each picture. Not 10 20 minutes. You want your pic to be its best. Pour your heart and soul into every image you do. And you'll get the most of it.
I admit some pics ya lose interest in. But keep it, ya might finish it later. Have done it very often.
I have a good 95% of every image I have drawn. starting from 6th grade. Sonic X related stuff.

And when I first started. I wanted to be so mush like Firestar. Get an inspiration, set a goal of what you want, and enjoy it. If you feel you have to push and are bored of an image, shelf it, try something else.

And to all kids here: Ask yourself. Why do I draw? What can I do to get better? What is my style? What personal touches can I do to make it my own?
And remember: DRAW FOR YOUR SELF WORTH! NOT OTHER'S! DRAWING TO PLEASE YOU IS THE BEST WAY TO DRAW!

I have to admit, I am a perfectionist, so if something in my drawings looks wrong I will change it until I happier with it, unless the alterations look even worse. I'm mid teen years so I know I still have time to improve, but I think people should have several years to develop their own style.

Here are a few of my first pieces of fanart I ever published:
http://www.animationsource.org/lion_kin ... play=10000
http://www.animationsource.org/lion_kin ... mart=24847
http://www.animationsource.org/lion_kin ... mart=24847

I didn't even know how to save my work as a .png in order to make it look nice! It was done in MSPaint with a mouse. What age do you think I was? I was 13, turning 14.
Then I discovered the tablet:
http://www.animationsource.org/lion_kin ... mart=24847
It still looked pretty bad, but it was an improvement and I was learning. Again, I was 14.

Then I discovered GIMP and that completely changed the way I drew! (The image below was done also when I was 14, turning 15, but there were more before it.)
http://www.animationsource.org/lion_kin ... mart=24847
I felt like my art had taken a step forwards and was definitely improving. This was done using a touchpad on a laptop, seeing as it was the only thing that had GIMP on it!

Then you get to my more recent pictures which are done on tablet once more. This is me aged 15, turning 16 in less than a month.
http://www.mylionking.com/fan/art/Artis ... work=18969

When I was 14, I basically didn't stop drawing. That was how I improved! Also, with the help of studies and tutorials, as well as better technology, my art improved dramatically.

But do you know how I make my drawings? I draw on paper and then scan them into my computer and go over them. Therefore, I knew my drawings had improved as well.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that technology can only improve a drawing so far. With practise (I used to copy screencaps) and some help (like using tutorials), anyone can improve no matter what their age, so don't say how bad your art is because the art comes from inside you.

Amen. Preach it! You speak duh truth. I drew crappy, and I mean CRAPPY. But look at me now people. And yeah... I know what it feels that no one looks at your art. I've been there, trust me. But, I'm here now.

This is an old mouse drawing I did for Numa. http://www.mylionking.com/fan/art/Artis ... twork=9830

People of this site, everyone will be somewhere where they want to be. And I've decided to stop drawing when I'm older... Yeah I know... It's just.... Ugh it's complicated to tell you now... But none of you should give up on your dreams. All of you guys have great imaginations. ALL OF CHUS. DEADASS. ;A; I speak the truth too.... I hope all of you guys understand....

Stop drawing cuz your older? Doesn't kinda make all the progress you've made a waste? Just flat out, kinda dumb to me. Been drawing 8 years. I don't plan on quitting. I enjoy it. Like if ya don't really enjoy it, then I can see why you're quitting art. Cuz your older? Seriously?
And you are an amazing artist. And here lately I've watched your flourish. So why quite when you're doing great?

OMG, Twin killin it with the real talk :highfive:

I agree though, never give up on art even if you think your art is bad. You still have a TON of time to improve, especially if you are still a kid ^^^

FINALLY SOMEONE SPEAKS THE TRUTH HERE...
Tbh... I don't wanna offend anyone, but saying to themselves sometimes how much their art sucks like maybe on every drawing... Kinda gets repetitive and is a cheap way to ask attention *ducks from rotten tomatoes* Sorry but that's kinda the truth ;-; please don't get mad at me♥

It's true on the age a lot, I used to be like this also when I was younger, but then I started to not care and do what I want, and look at me now... I've been drawing from like 2005 (which I sadly don't have sketches because of a lot of moving houses and places). It also doesn't mean you can't draw without a tablet... ALL of my pictures were with a mouse, and I only got a tablet few days before my birthday in 2013, and here is one of my mouse art example: http://natashathequeen.deviantart.com/a ... -333630088 and it was a Point Commission... A POINT COMMISSION, meaning there ARE people that CAN LIKE whatever you draw, even my mouse art was liked by many people because of the magic I did. You don't need a tablet, you need talent.

The only thing now I've been feeling like crap is... the lack of support I'm getting for the art now... (Something similar to why Timitu is taking a break) With that feeling, and sometimes feeling worthless... It crushes me to say "Screw this I'm done", not even one single comment sometimes on drawings I've spent like I dunno 2 weeks to finish and trying to figure a detail out, no comment, and I feel like utter **** when there's not even one word... But then I do remember that I do have friends that do love my art, even if they're only on the Internet.

Much appreciated that someone finally spoke the truth what I've all the time had in my mind when someone beats themselves up. I have one journal that somewhat had a "poem" thingy something similar to this... But it's somewhere buried lol...
