Character Description

Among the newer and lesser known Lion King characters, Tama came on the scene in 2005 in a German comic “Schalngen im Paradies” (“Trouble in Paradise”). She probably has the most unique design Disney gave a lioness. Her fur color is a peachy shade not seen on other lionesses, and she is the only one besides Vitani to have a tuft of fur on her head. Some fans believe that Tama is actually a male due to the tuft and the fact that her belly fur stops at the chest instead of going up on the neck. It’s generally more accepted that Tama’s a female, due to the lack of whiskers mainly but also Simba referring to her as a girl in the comic. When Tama and Nala first go into the valley, Tama says, “I have never seen so many beautiful flowers all at once before!” In the next frame it show Simba following and with thought bubbles saying, “Stupid flowers…annoying butterflies……so what? That girl is so annoying!” It seems that he is referring to Tama, since Nala only mentioned the colors of everything and not flowers.

Since she only appears in one short comic, it’s hard to pinpoint Tama’s personality. She seems curious and rambunctious like Nala and Simba, given she did go to the secret valley without a worry. From her actions, she’s also brave like them and quick-thinking like Nala. After that fans like to create their own ideas on what she’s like. There are also fan theories surfacing as she gets more recognition. Most concern her being related either to Nala or Vitani, and being the mate of either Malka or Tojo. Whatever the case, this cub of The Lion King universe continues to capture interest from fans.
