Character Description

The focus of the first Lion King movie and a main character in the others, Simba is probably the most known character of The Lion King. Even some online Swahili dictionaries mention that it was the name of a lion in a Disney film as well as meaning lion. It's easy to see why he's a favorite among so many fans. He has a lovable personality, fun design, and a story that’s timeless. Of course, it could also be his family of other beloved characters and great voice talents too. Cub Simba’s singing talent comes from Jason Weaver, and Evan Saucedo (The Morning Report), while his main voice is none other than Jonathan Taylor Thomas, star of Man of the House, Walking Across Egypt, and other movies along with the television series Home Improvement. Adult Simba is voiced by Matthew Broderick, who has been known for starring in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Inspector Gadget, Godzilla, Bee Movie, and Tale of Despereaux just to name a few, and with the singing talent of Joseph Williams. Plus who can forget Simba’s royal family? Mufasa, his loving father; Sarabi, his clever mother; his treacherous uncle, Scar; devoted wife, Nala; and Kiara, his fun-loving daughter.

As a young cub, Simba is rambunctious and mischievous. He thinks being king is getting everything he wants and having fun. Even so he does listen to his father’s lessons on being king. But once he runs away and meets Timon and Pumbaa, he gets a new set of lessons in hakuna matata. This new care-free, no responsibilities lifestyle carries on in Simba during his stay in the jungle. Nala tried to make him see his responsibility to go back and be king, but it wasn’t until Mufasa’s ghost reminded to remember who he was that he realized that. After Kiara is born, we see him as a worried and overprotective father. And as the second movie goes on, it seems that he wants so much to be like his father that he is quick to judge the Outsiders and continues Mufasa”˜s law of banishment against them. Kiara finally makes him realize that they aren’t so different from them and that Kovu truly loves her when she reminds him of something he once told her.
