# Practice-art
August 25th, 2016, 3:10 am
I don't think I be here, in a while. I mean I already have not been updating my work, but also being on here in general. Right now I don't want to post ANYTHING cause my arts trash. And in my opinion it looks horrible.:( Yeah, that's to tell you I'm not proud of it at all. The only way to do that of course is practice! Which I will do. And when I'm finally good enough with my art, I'll upload again! Dunno when that'll be though.

To be honest, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm 13, so obviously I'm not nearly as good as anyone here, but at school. everyone says I'm amazing. I've been drawing since I was about 7, so I've changed styles a ton from then. I always get worked up thinking I'm not good after comparing my art to more talented artists, but that's what keeps you going, and constantly trying to improve. I always make my friends mad by saying I don't like my drawings, but that's because I know they can be better. If my friend begs for a picture I don't like, I won't give it to them, because I'm not satisfied with it. And I will try again. It takes a while, but you'll soon find a way of drawing more comfortable to suite you're taste. The one thing i can say is. Don't give up, if you don't like it, but others do, it won't change the fact that you don't like it. Be proud of you're achievements, and think of you're failed attempts as ways to improve you're skills.

Hey if you'd like i could help you. I could teach you stuff that i had to figure out of my own. Help you to figure out your style and all. I felt the same way u do when i started out so id love to help u. I could give you tips and stuff on your drawings, through some other site (email, facebook) so others dont se it until u like it.

So I know that I very rarely post around here and tbh it probably isn't really any of my business anyway, but I just gotta hop on my soapbox for a sec and say that there really isn't any need to be that hard on yourself. Your art may need improving but at the end of the day, everybody has more that they can learn. Also, I know you probably don't want to hear this from me but you are only 13 - and though it probably doesn't feel like it to you, that's still pretty young and it's very likely that you and your art are going to grow and change a lot in the coming years.

To be completely frank with you, most people that I have ever seen just don't draw that well even through their early/mid-teen years. I didn't, my friends didn't... and yeah, that's totally normal. You just haven't really been able to put the time in yet. Comparing yourself to other people and saying "boy, they're so much better than me... my art must be crap" really isn't fair if you're 13 and they're, say... 27.

I don't know if it would make you feel better but if you don't believe me, I actually have one of my first TLK pictures that I drew back when I was 13. I spent quite a bit of time coloring it and working on it and was quite proud of it at the time.

Compare to one I did just now in about 20 minutes (with way less effort, if I'm honest).

It hasn't even been five whole years yet, and if I'm completely honest with you then I would say that writing is more of my strong point compared to drawing, anyway. But there's still definitely been a change over the years. A lot of it just comes with practice, though of course it helps if it's focused practice. I spent time watching speedpaints and tutorials on Youtube, looking at tutorials on dA, and of course making close friends who were really into art (which helped a lot).

If you focus and draw a lot with the intent of getting better, you will improve. I almost gave up with art multiple times because I felt like it was crap, but eventually I came to realize that I wasn't really being fair or realistic in terms of my skill level. A lot of it just comes with age and experience, so be patient with yourself.

Also (just as one last note) a quick look through your gallery made me think that you're probably using MS Paint, which... I don't know. I used it at 13 because I didn't know there was anything else out there, but it's definitely one of the most limited art programs I've ever used. You can find better free ones online - I'd start maybe with GIMP or Krita but there are definitely others. I'd also highly recommend Paint Tool SAI if you can get your hands on it. It's very intuitive and good quality and also affordable though I got mine for free because someone gave me the file whoops. So that might also help you just to be honest.

Hope that helps or something, I dunno. I just wanted to say that. Good luck.

Yeah, my first pictures are with me paint, the ones after that is medibang paint pro, but I didn't know how to use it. And my newest pictures are actually with krita. And thank you with the advice...I'll keep it in mind.:)

You should never call your work trash! Seriously?!
You're certainly better off than when I first began drawing. ( had three years under my belt before I started to post art to be honest )

You should reference stuff, study the anatomy of the thing you are trying to draw. It be a feline, canine, equine, object, you name. Study it's anatomy, reference stuff.
You should always experiment with how you bring your image together, it does a lot. I do it for every image, I get a different result each time, and admitted some I am not very proud of, but I never call it trash. It's a good piece in its own right, and you should do that with your stuff. Look for ways to improve the work.
I don't if this'll be helpful or not, but am gonna say it anyway.
As an artist, I always try to draw what is in my head. But I am aware that I am rarely if ever actually going to get that exact image. I can come close at times, but never exact. That's nothing to be ashamed of. All artist's are this way. And if anything, it gives the image a different perspective from how you originally see it. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it's not what you particallrly favoured, but it's good either way. There is no absolute bad art. All artwork is good in its own right. (granted I find all nude stuff wrong, but the quality of the drawing is not bad, i still don't approve)
Though here is the thing, all artwork from person to person is different, the outcomes may look very similar, but the construction of it is very different.

I've seen artist's that to me are a lot better than what I see of mine, call their work trash. That really gets to me personally, so one should call their work trash. It isn't.
Sure, it may not be as good as one would like, but it isn't trash, you're earlier on the drawing road, that is it. How fast you go along it however, is up to you.

Thanks. I just have a low self esteem I guess. Never looked at my art as good enough. Yeah, I really do reference for all my drawings. I look at anatomy. But they never come out right. that's what practice is for. I just don"t want to upload anything till I'm good enough. I don't really think highly of my self do I? That's just me.:/

If you need to like overlay trace once in a while, you should, I'm willing to offer up some of my stuff for ya if you're up with that. To help get a feel for the anatomy, I did that a lot when I first started, it helped out a lot.
You upload when you feel what you got is worthy to do so with.
People should think more of their self worth than bash themselves. No one is perfect, so don't try to be, just be yourself and be happy with where you are, and if you have anything you are not too fond, work on it, and make it better. So in the famous words of Shifu of KP3
"If you only do what you can do, you will never become more than you are now."
He's saying continually push your abilities and experiment, and that will widen for horizon on things.
