New changes that are going to happen

I mean it is what it is. I suppose it's good to shift the focus back to TLK since it's a TLK board. Problem is, a good, very good portion of the long standing community has pretty much openly admitted we really don't have anything more to say about TLK, and that's why we were hanging out in the den so much. I'm not sure where this movement of emphasis leaves us.

...we can still make new threads but IF it has a big "Spam Me" sign on it, the staff will close it and rightfully so.

Actually we just made a new rule that says you can only create new den topics once a moderator approves it. There shouldn't be a problem since, at most, one topic is created a day. As long as the thread isn't silly or pointless, it will get approved. The specifics of this will be discussed later, but it will most likely be a "be sure to send a PM before creating one" type of thing unless Moka has some technical trick up his sleeve.

We actually only deleted 5 or 6 debates (along with the subforum). Everything else inside it was moved to "World Events" section.

Problem is, a good, very good portion of the long standing community has pretty much openly admitted we really don't have anything more to say about TLK, and that's why we were hanging out in the den so much.

Not sure of the problem here. We aren't wrecking the den, we are cleaning it up. The only things that are being removed are:

1. Unpopular Arcade Games
2. Extremely Controversial Topics
3. Pointless Den Threads

Really this place is just fine. The TLK tempo is grand for an old movie, the chit-chat is more active than other places, apparently there's a large capacity for extended socializing that I'm regretably but blissfully hazy on.

I never thought I'd be advocating people keeping it realistic, and I haven't seen anyone who hasn't been really, but always a good thing to reiterate.

Because new members should be focusing on the TLK sections of the board. Otherwise, why would they of joined in the first place?

Exactly. Most new members join to discuss TLK. In fact, the newer members are mostly the only ones posting in those sections.

A solution is being proposed to a solve a problem that doesn't exist.

And, if OT topics need to be approved first (which I approve of), then it's even less of a problem.

Taking away the Arcade and Dens takes away the whole social aspect of a community and makes the whole site quite dull to outsiders.

We aren't taking away the Den or the Arcade, just the pointless topics inside of them. All of the most popular games have been saved in the Den. And we aren't going to delete Den topics unless they are really, really dumb. I don't want to post any examples of these because I don't want to publicly call out the members who made them.

But one month is a bit much. If not remove it, then at least shorten it to say.. two to three weeks.

In fact it's already spamming the den. The ''rate the siggy above you'' topic is already on top the whole time.

I'm not disagreeing on this, but it could have happened way earlier. Instead the forum has always been locking topics. seriously? What is the purpose of locking them if we don't need them. Just delete them in the first place and send the creater as standard PM

I think that this may be against the rules. I remember I sent a request one time to a mod that said "Please delete this topic. If not, please lock" and they ended up locking it. So I'm guessing that this isn't the norm on the site. TBH, it would look so much better to remove them although. *makes another mental note to bring it up with the staff*

Simply eliminating things in the den will not bring most people back to TLK because that is not the reason they visit here so often. they visit here because the members are nice and to discus things that are all in the den and the members HQ.

You're confusing apples and oranges. We are eliminating things in the den to tidy things up, organize the overall section, and remove pointless OT stuff. The primary goal of this isn't to jumpstart TLK discussions.

We were trying to avoid the backlash that would have followed if someone created a topic and then it was deleted the next day. That's basically the only alternative to the situation. Plus, there are other forums with this same rule. But yes, I will bring this back up as well.

We aren't trying to encourage TLK posting as much as we are trying to discourage Den posting by people that will not be here longer than 3 weeks. I can think of one member (whom I will not be publicly naming) that created several Den topics, most of which are locked, within the first couple of weeks here and she is no longer active.

Trust me, I don't want that either. But like Blake said, if this does happen we can reverse it. No worries. Hakuna Matata.

^The goal of bringing back TLK discussions is a long term one. I'd love to see it happen more than anyone, but in the mean time, we are cleaning up the Den. There is a connection, but it's not a domino effect. Removing a person's Q&A thread that never got a response isn't going to make people talk TLK.
