Pearl Mellark
After a wax job and a haircut, the stylists were done with me. I suppose it could have been worse, but after the wax job, I hadn't wanted much else done to me, so I was glad that the only other thing they did was cut my hair so it was shoulder-length.
"Be back in half an hour so we can get you ready for the parade around the Capitol," Marissa, the one with the pink hair, instructed. I nodded my head, slipped back on my clothes I had worn here, and walked to my room. I was amazed at what I saw when I arrived. Not even the houses in the Victor's Village back home could compare. The room was about ten times the size of my bedroom back in District 12. The bed was so comfy and big, my whole family could fit on it comfortably. The window spanned the whole wall on one side. I grabbed the remote off the table next to me and began flipping through it, amazed how the window changed its scene as I did.
When I finally finished through all of them, I looked at the time to see that there was five minutes before I had to be back with the stylists so they could finish me up for tonight. I stood up and walked out of the room, interested in seeing what they had chosen for me to wear tonight.
"Oh, there you are, darling," Marissa said. "You're here just in time. Claudius just arrived with the outfit for you to wear tonight." She grabbed my wrist and pulled me over to Claudius, who was standing with a bag in his hands, giving nothing away about what the dress was like.
"Ah, Miss Mellark. It's a pleasure to meet you," Claudius said.
"Likewise," I said, shaking his hand. He pulled out the dress, revealing a red dress with a nice pattern on the top and a few shapes that looked like snowflakes on the bottom. White beads lined the edges of the sleeves and the top of the dress. Claudius put it on me, and I realized how short it really was. The end of the red fabric reached just above my knees, with the see-through part reaching just past the knees. The fabric started right at my breasts, but the see-through material covered the bare chest area.
"Well, what do you think?" he asked.
"It's gorgeous!" I said, spinning around in it.
"I'm glad you like it. You're going to look stunning out there," Claudius said.
"How long before I have to be on the chariot?" I asked.
"About twenty minutes, which gives Marissa, Tabitha, and Frank plenty of time to finish you up," Claudius said. As if on cue, the three stylists began working on me, applying eyeshadow, lipstick, and nail polish. After they were done with that, Tabitha curled my hair, and I looked in the mirror to see that all of the makeup was red, to match my dress. I hardly even recognized myself, but I was glad, because then maybe I would have a better chance of surviving in the Games.
"It is time," Claudius said. "Let's go."
