Impossible (Malaika's Beginning's)

CHAPTER 1: Birth into the Family

Hours of pacing back and forth, Ushujaa, was becoming anxious. Soaked, his dark brown fur was being weighed down from the intense rain that was flooding the savannah. His mind whirling with worry. His mate, Maua, has been in labor since sundown. All he could think about was her, nothing else was even going through his head. The other members of the pride were around him trying to calm him down and reassure him but he couldn't hear them. He was to focused souly on his mate. Suddenly through the darkness and grass a lioness approached him. His sister-in-law Nyuki was about to bring news about his mate and cubs, and if everything went alright.

"Ushujaa," she called out to him, but no response. He was still in his own little world thinking about his wife only when she called his name a second time did he snap out of his trance-like state and acknowledge her. He walked up to her, heart pounding loud enough that she could hear it. She told him that his mate was fine and she gave birth to three cubs. However, before she could say anymore he speed through the pitch black to where his mate was laying. And with her three small cubs just about the size of his paw.

The rain had passed, and the sky had started to clear allowing the moon to shine down on her and their cubs. Two males and a female. Even though it was dark he could see his mate giving the cubs a bath. As he approached he smiled wide, he was quite proud to not only be a father but be a father of three cubs. He laid down next to her, gave her a quick lick, then turned his attention to the cubs .

"They're beautiful," he said with a smile. "Have you named any of them yet?"

His mate looked at him, shook her head no and chuckled.

"I figured you and I would come up with the names together, after all they are your cubs too." she said while giving him a nuzzle.

"Any ideas for the names?" Ushujaa asked as he looked down. He nuzzled the cub closest to him, who happened to be squirmming around wanting warmth, and called him Mwendo. Then looked up at his mate to get an approval for the name.

"Mwendo, I like it. It suites you just fine." she calmly told the small cub.

She looked down at the cub she had just finished giving a bath. The newborn reminded her of her father, and she decided to name him after her father, Msaka. Ushujaa gave him a nuzzle and said that sounded perfect.They then turned their attention to the last cub, a girl. A blacked furred cub who they decided to call Malaika, due to the resemblance of Ushujaa's mother. The two lions couldn't have been more happy. Now they had a family. Maua took all of the cubs and put them between her paws to give them comfort. Maua licked Ushujaa and laid her head down. She was exhausted and in need of rest. Ushujaa blushed a little after getting licked and proceeded to lay his head down next to his mate. Tomorrow would be the first whole day as a family and he couldn't wait. Letting out a yawn, he looked at his wife and cubs who were already fast asleep, pride filling his eyes as he drifted off into sleep.
