A Private RP for Labatis

[Huehue.]

Chaltuu hardly realized that the male was watching. Her paws moved rapidly under the water. Kivuli always told her if she got wet she'd "spoil meat and make it all soggy", which was why she never got a chance to swim. Being exiled from her pride never bothered her. Kivuli had always been harsh on her, and Uangaze was straight-out negligent and hardly noticed Chaltuu's entire existence. Her old pridemates were never any better, as they treated her like garbage, like the curse that everyone thought she was.
Kivuli and Uangaze were always very accepting and welcoming to new members that wished to join, but they weren't as compassionate to their own daughter. That had led to huge fights in the past, where hurtful words were used and sometimes Chaltuu would even get a physical punishment. That resulted in her getting the rip in her ear and the scar on her muzzle and left shoulder.
Never mind Kivuli or Uangaze- they probably had some other cub they were babying, hardly noticing the fact that they had banished their own daughter from their pride.

Angus studied her scars, wondering how some came to be. Most were claw marks, and a couple looked as if they happened recently. For a while, Angus tried not to be seen, but after a while, he wondered what it would be like to properly greet himself. With a huff, he stepped forward, being more visible. He gently sat himself down, his tail flicking side to side.

"Greetings." Angus' voice was low, but didn't have a threat sound in it. Perhaps he won't seem as annoying as before.

Chaltuu turned her head towards him, her scruffy cheek fur still touching the water.
"Hello," she said.
Her voice wasn't as gruff and harsh as it usually was. It also wasn't necessarily welcoming or friendly, but she wasn't launching herself at his throat, so that was good in itself. She started treading the water calmly. Her long, thick fur seemed to spread out around her, darkening when the water came into contact with it. She distracted herself when she noticed a mosquito landing on a nearby flower. How she longed to crush both the flower and the mosquito. After all, why not save herself, and anyone else, from being bitten by the nasty little thing?
Quickly she snapped her attention back to Angus, not wanting to look like she was just drifting off. She tilted her head, curious as to why he was there.

Angus watched her slowly glance around the area, and when she looked back at him curiously, he prepared to continue what he started.

"I wanted to apologize about earlier, it was no way to greet someone. I'm Angus. May I ask for your name?" He tried sounding calm and nice, but he kind of wanted to just pretend he had never said a word. He was hoping she'd reply the way he imagined so he could explain himself.

Chaltuu dipped her head, her chin brushing the water. "That's fine," she said. "My name's Chaltuu." She wondered about his past. That was none of her business, but she couldn't help but be sort of curious.
She started to paddle towards the shore, then shook her fur out- away from Angus. She didn't want to get him wet or anything, and when she shook most of the water out of her pelt, she sat beside Angus, her fur still damp but not dripping with the water. Her narrowed green eyes were gazing at Angus, not in the most friendly way, but not hostile either. She began to flatten her chest fur casually, though inside she felt rather embarrassed. How long had Angus been watching her swim? Oh, well, that didn't matter too much. It wasn't like he was stalking her or something.

Angus' muscles tensed when she walked up, he wasn't frightened by her, it just made him feel tense. He looked over at her, then remembered he wanted to explain himself."You see, I left my other pride, due to some.. events. I have been searching for a new pride for a long time now, and I was sort of hoping you were in a pride.." Angus thought about her scars, and new there must've been a pride she used to be in. "....I assume you've been in a pride before?"

"Yes, my father's, actually," Chaltuu said, kicking at a stone and watching it splash into the lake. "My father and mother were the leaders of the pride."
She watched the rock sink to the murky bottom of the lake, knowing that was how her heart felt after being rejected by her family and pride for all that time. Her parents didn't seem to grasp the fact that she had feelings and emotions too, and even if they did notice, they didn't care. If they did, why did they bully and neglect her, treat her like an obscenity never meant to exist in the first place? It was all because of her stupid fur color. Was red fur really that bad? It was just her. It didn't mean she was some curse or some aberration or some freak of nature, but that was sure how her parents made her feel.

Angus listened to her, noticing her suddenly feel sorrow and rejection. He felt bad for her, knowing that no lioness should experience that. "Sorry that happened to you. Why is it your pride didn't like you? Your a beautiful lioness, a skilled huntress, I might add." Angus wished that he hadn't asked her, because it only upset her.

[Iri]

Chaltuu grunted. "Well, apparently, red fur is a curse. And I was born with this russet pelt that's practically red, so, that means my family didn't really like me." She sort of saw that Angus looked a bit guilty, but she didn't mind his question much.
Beautiful, did he call her? Beautiful?
Chaltuu had sure never felt beautiful. She was unusually tall, and lanky too. She had ruffled, unkempt fur and a scowl was almost always plastered on her face. She always had her claws unsheathed. Her green eyes were narrowed all the time, and to top it all off, her red fur could be seen from a mile away- that didn't mean that was a good thing. It was so easy to see her when hunting that she very often scared prey off because her red fur against the pale goldenish grass didn't really blend in that well.

"Well that's nonsense!" Angus scoffed. "Red fur shows loyalty, strength, and a brave soul. How could that possibly be a curse?" He wondered why certain colored lions get exiled for the way they are born. Hunting may not work out well, yet that doesn't mean they are bad at fighting. Defending a pride is important. Was it honestly a curse because it is the color of blood?
