Should there be a rule against spam?

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!
And DGFone, you were the one saying just the other day this is a TLK forum. So man, everything here should be about TLK. You're just being a hypocrite. Wanting to keep one thing because you like it, but wanting to rid of another because you find it annoying. That's mature.
Yes, I said that this is a TLK forum. I never said that the only things that can be posted on here have to be TLK related. I have no idea where you got that impression from. Everyone already know that it's possible to make MLK completely TLK related, just that it will kill MLK.-

Because you use the argument that this is a TLK forum against subjects all the time. That tends to make people think that you're for making this just a TLK forum. Like seriously, don't say things if you don't mean them.

To each their own, but I would rather have proper discussions with people than counting up from one and repeating the process over and over.
I do a lot of counting at work sometimes, and am yet to find any fun in it.

I agree with what everyone else has said though, sure maybe not all of the threads in The Den but I mean come on... The Last Person To Post, counting to 35, guess the member, make a random obvious statement about the person above you... Come on people.
So yeah lock / delete the obvious suspects and make a rule so that other pointless threads will not continue to be made / remade. Cause I mean you can not really close spam inducing threads if spam is not against the rules in the first place so without the rule for it then the cycle will just repeat itself.

EDIT - Still would like more opinions first though.

^ To be honest, Guess The Member just got spammy because of some individuals. I don't think it was intended to make spam lol. I thought it was a good idea. But last person to post gets on my nerves.

Just do what I do, ignore the threads that bother you. The ones that annoy me I never check up on, nor post in. It's pretty easy and that way, everybody wins. I think people would get pretty peeved if threads started getting locked, especially if they are active. I can see that losing alot of members.

Lets take a little maturity and not look at threads you believe are spam. It's bad enough you want the chat threads gone, but now you want the Den as well. Ridiculous. Might as well just shut down the forum. I for one find the counting game fun and somewhat challenging. If you don't like it you don't have to look; it's that simple.

Loosing a lot of active members? We do not even have a lot of active members to loose, and I think most of them are mature enough not to rage quit a forum just because a few forum games get locked and the community decided to put a slight bit of focus on actual posts instead.

I do ignore them, but its a bit tricky when they are almost always appearing on the index page as latest posts. And it would be nice to see threads appearing there that I may actually want to visit. At the moment I log in, scroll down and log back out because the same one liner threads are on the index page, its not until I actually go into the forums I see other (more important) threads have been made.

I am noticing a pattern, it seems to be the older members (as in who have been here longer) who seem to see the point I am trying to make. Not saying yours is irrelevant of course, its very much appreciated in fact. But after two years+ being here, seeing the same threads at the top of The Den every time has got a little bit tiresome.

And Tora - your post appeared just before I posted this but read this post for the same reasons. It actually is NOT the simple when they are always at the top, overshadowing more relevant conversations. Also talk about maturity "Might as well shout down the whole forum if you shut down the den" is probably one of the most immature sounding things I have ever read on this web site.
If you still can not see the problem, there is not enough time in Emmet Browns workshop for me to explain it to you and I bid you farewell.

EDIT - READ the post man, its not Shakespeare! I never said get rid of the den entirely.

I have to say this: locking up topics is the wrong mental attitude to this. If you think that the spam threads are such a big problem, try to come up with a solution that doesn't involve locking up the topics, because there are members that like them. Move them to a new location, perhaps? This way, you can have the den be updated with more 'mature' posts and not be as active, and you can still have the spam topics in some sort of 'playground' section.

I count myself as an older member, almost at 2 years, and I can see the point you are making Flippeh. I'd like to see a few of those forum games get locked, but definitely not all of them. What ones exactly did you have in mind? The ones I'd keep off the top of my head are -

"What are you thinking"
"How are you feeling"
"What are you doing"
"Post Your Desktop" (I like seeing desktop backgrounds x)
"Rate the Signature Above You" & "Rate the Avatar Above You" (Some might find it pointless, but I think those who make graphics like to see what others rate them as)

You posted before me DGF lol, I can see what your trying to say as well, but wasn't that what the Arcade section was for before it was deleted? *shrugs* It'll still make MLK seem spammy because there's an actual 'spam area'
