Background: The youngest of the Frollo family, she is generally favourited by her father. Her mother however tends to ignore her, as do her other siblings expect her oldest brother Claude. However, she did not want to learn the traditions of her family, whom were one of the richest in France, she wanted friends. She left the house many times to go and meet new people, and befriended her families most hated type of people, gypsies.

When she was almost 16, Lucien, her father, decided it was time for her to marry. For her sisters had been married off and were having children. She wasn't all impressed with the idea, and her father found her a suitor. Deon Marceau. A wealthy, good looking man, 28 years old. However, he showed his true colours when him and Colette were alone. Rude, disrespectful and sick minded.

She complained to her father, but he laid down the law, she was to marry Deon. Upset and angry, she went to Claude for her problems and told him she was leaving for a while to seek advice for her gypsy friends. So, Claude had to cover for her. By lying to their father. It was on this two day outing that she met the Englishman, Anthony.

The two had instant chemistry, and she made sure her gypsy friends gave him a place to stay while he was in France. She did seek advice, advice that she should leave her family if she was not happy. Confused, she returned to find that Lucien had given Claude a hard time. However, when her parents told them they were going away for the week, Colette was in her element.

Claude had the house to himself, and her grandmother Anne-Marie came to stay. So Colette was free to do as she pleased. She stayed out, meeting up with English Anthony again and the two bonded. She told Anne-Marie about her new found relationship, and she advised her to be careful of how she acts. Claude overheard this conversation however.

However, her week was stopped abruptly when Deon made another appearance, demanding the wedding to be organized soon. They had an argument, where Claude protected Colette and told Deon to leave. When their father heard that Claude had been supposedly ‘rude’ to Deon, Lucien was not a happy man.

After another week of lies about Colette going out too meet her secret lover, it all began to boil up, especially when Deon began to get impatient. Anthony had to leave to go back to England, but swore to Colette he’ll be back with the promise of marriage and a better life. Meanwhile, Lucien told Colette she must spend a couple of weeks with Deon, whether she liked it or not.

Claude, frustrated and jealous of the constant attention Colette was getting and the fact he got the blame for everything, told his father of Colette’s lies and disobeyment. He finally got the praise he always wanted, but to his dismay. For when Colette had returned from Mr. Marceau’s residence, the family learnt of the abuse she had suffered there, but did not care.

They all turned their backs on Colette and threw her onto the streets, not knowing she was in fact pregnant. Not that it would of changed anything. She went to stay with her grandmother, only to learn that she had passed away. Devastated, she turned to the only people she had left, her gypsie friends, and they gave her the care she needed.

Anthony returned, shocked at the state his true love was in, was furious and attempted to go after Deon and her family. Colette refused to let him, saying he would make it worse. Near her 17th birthday, she gave birth to a baby boy, Louis. It was Claude who attempted to solve the hatred, and went to meet Colette, but when she refused to return and lead the life that her father wanted for her, Claude lost his temper and left for good.

After 12 years of hardships, happiness, a still born baby and death of gypsy friends, Anthony and Colette finally had a daughter together. Louis left with the gypsies when he was 12, just before Aimee was born for an adventurous life. Aimee was brought up in the company of gypsies and adapted to that way of life, and Colette loved her dearly.

However, when the gypsy camp was wiped out, Anthony’s life with it also, her and Aimee fled to the streets of Paris, back towards Colette’s hometown. The stress of keeping 13 year old Aimee alive, her body weakening and her past ordeals had driven Colette to death in the end. She had lived a tough life, but somehow through all that, she still managed to have what she wanted, a loving family of her own.
