Bidii's Portrait

Registered at MLK: April 3rd, 2014, 2:19 am.

Gender: Female

Species: African lion

Character Description

Name Meaning:
"diligent" in Swahili.

Orientation:
Pansexual.

Relationships:
Wajanja - father
Tulivu - mother
Chipukizi - sister
Mbegu - best friend

Appearance:
She is a rather small lioness, but not too abnormally petite. She's pretty compact as well, not skinny, and is more bulky than some. Not to the point of plumpness, but she's certainly well-muscled. She doesn't eat that much, but her genes give her a very filled-out look. She has short fur that's rather tufty, and especially on places such as her elbows and stomach it's somewhat curly. She has a teeny curled tuft on her head. Bidii's fur is a dark reddish-brown color. Her undersides are a bit lighter, as are her toes and the upper part of her eye shading. Her tail is a darker red-brown and so is her inner ears and the lower half of her eye shading. She has six stripes on her rump that are pale in color, and a single stripe coming from her nose. She has very dark ear rims, and a pinkish brown nose. Bidii's eyes were once a light blue, but they have paled and faded to a grey color.

Personality:
Bidii is playful and light-minded. She always seems to be in a pleasant mood, and for the most part she is. She's very good at hiding when she's sad, though, and nearly always wears a smile. She doesn't like seeing others upset either, and will certainly try to cheer them up as best she can. She's completely and utterly selfless. She devotes her whole being to helping others.

She's somewhat silly and loves to have fun. Despite her lack of sight, she'll tumble and scrabble with others to the best of her abilities. She doesn't let her blindness stop her at anything. Though she's very hard-working as well, trying to do all she can. Although she's nearly helpless on her own, she is very stubborn and likes to pretend she can go about like a normal lioness. She's very aware that others pity her and think her useless, but she doesn't let it bother her.

The lioness tends not to get angry much. She doesn't like violence, which isn't surprising considering she can't fight anyhow. She's also somewhat jumpy, and will freak out at some things--also not a shock. She's lived most of her life without sight, but seeing how she can't really run or hide well without it, she is easily spooked. Bidii will try and hide the fact that she's frightened, but it's often obvious, unlike when she tries to hide sadness.

On the topic of romance, she's still a bit of a child. And of course, she doubts anyone would love a blind lioness. She's content without anyone to call hers, but she does sort of harbor a secret hope for a mate and maybe even cubs. But usually she calls herself silly for even thinking about it.

History:
Bidii's mother Tulivu and Tulivu's close friend Karibu were traveling together with Bidii's father Wajanja when she was born. She was born a little late, a short while after her sister Chipukizi. She was small to begin with, but otherwise healthy. Karibu herself had a cub, a two-month-old male named Mbegu. The three cubs grew to be fast friends. When Bidii was barely a month old their little group joined a small pride called the Shadelands Pride.

They had a good life there. Bidii was gentle and silly, and loved her sister and best friend Mbegu. However, when she was three months old she became very ill, and the sickness ruined her eyes, leaving her blind for life. It was a frightening change, and she spent the week or so after her vision faded curled in her nest with her mother and occasionally Chipukizi or Mbegu. The pride's healer could do nothing to save her eyes, and had informed her parents that she would likely need assistance her entire life.

As Bidii aged she became used to not seeing. She recovered from the shock and jumped eagerly into playing, even though she was no longer coordinated or fast. She learned how to rely on just scent and sound, and became an adept tracker. Her entire family was supportive, and even when she was teased by some of the other cubs she always had kin to go to. And Mbegu was a steady friend always.

The Shadelanders endured a near-takeover with a group of lions, but were able to fight them off. However, Wajanja and Karibu were two of the many casualties. The pride was in disarray, and it took them a bit to get back under control. Bidii was very upset, as were her sister and mother. But as the pride grew to its former success, she steadily recovered with Mbegu, who had been grieving for his mother.

Chipukizi became distant as she started hunting lessons, and found some other friends. Bidii still loved her, but understood that her sister wanted to be with those she could be more active with. She was like any young lioness, goofy and bright. Bidii was silly and playful, not bitter at all for her disability. She had her best friend, and a home.
