'I've sent the lionesses for a hunt,' Kovu said as he walked up to his brother-in-law, Themba. 'We need a rest.'
Themba glanced back, then looked past the borders of the Pridelands. 'I fear we have to cross them,' he spoke, his deep voice calm.
'Don't worry. We have no feud with any prides living on the other sides.' The dark lion stood next to Themba. 'That is all in the past.'
Soon the lionesses came back with a nice big waterbuffalo. One lionesses had suffered an injury when taking down the beast and after she had eaten, Kovu sent her back to Priderock.
After a short nap, Kovu and Themba agreed they would go seperate ways. They would follow the borderlines and hopefully pick up a stronger scent of their sons.
Kovu and his lionesses had walked quite a long time when they came upon the desert. For a second, the dark lion considered not going there. Kato wouldn't be that stupid?
But what if, for some reason the cubs had ventured here? Kovu gestured his lionesses to fan out and go into the dessert, where the sun was blinding and the air was dry. A small wind whipped up some sand.
'I don't think they went here sire,' a lioness spoke after walking quite a distance into the sands. 'We can't pick up anything.'
Kovu lowered his head and as he did, he suddenly smelled a very familiar scent. His eyes widened. 'KATO!' he hissed and started running.
The lionesses lowered their heads as well and pick up the same scent. Dashing after their King, they looked if they could spot the cubs. The scent became stronger and Kovu's tread faster.
In the distance they suddenly saw 2 tiny peculiar coloured sanddunes. Kovu was the first to reach them and with his paw removed the sand. Both cubs were so still.....
The dark lion threw his head back and let out a long mighty roar, crossing the desert, back to the Pridelands, way back to Priderock. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
