King Maliki was very old, and often thought he wouldn't have heirs to his throne until two cubs were born, Prince Skovem and Princess Nikala. He felt proud to have such a healty son and daughter, though he knew that the son would take the throne. As time past and his children began to grow, it came across him that Skovem was a push over and would not stand as a leader with his attidues and kind and sympathetic heart. As time past, and Nikala had been visited by the spirits, he chose her over him.
As cubs, Skovem was still showered by attention by the adult lionesses and had his sister and two friends to keep him company. When Nikala would have her nightmarish dreams of the future, he was always next to her, ready to awaken her if she was too violant in her sleep. She would spend hours alone talking to her, which would become a problem once Audi and his gang began to mock him as a "disgrace to his family" "wimp" "pea-brained prince" in his ignorant attempt after being chided of being worthless, he begins telling secrets that Nikala had told him, one of which with Talek becoming a King. Outraged, he was immediatly banished from the Pridelands due to his greed for the throne. Skovem, too afraid to tell his sister while Talek had left, did not say anything about this attempt to free himself for the constant teasing and bullying.
One night, Nikala had a horrific dream of what seemed to be Talek dieing by a monster in a jungle's canopies. Fearing the worst, she leaves Skovem, reassuring him that she would be back to claim the throne and get rid of Audi.
After many months had passed, Skovem's guilt became too much for him and soon went to search for his sister and friend. In his desperate searching, he is caught by Mchawi, and the rest of the Outsiders. Thinking since he was the king's son, he would be the future king, they intend on stealing the throne, but are dismayed to find out that Audi was the next king. After the brutal murder Audi by the only male of Queen Kita's family, Hashir, he is held captive deep in the shadowland termite mounds. He is kept there for a year until a rescue party comes for him.
He is sent to the pits, where the earth seemed to crash under even the slightest change in weight. As Nikala's rescue party comes to rescue him, Hadithi is sent to rescue him as Nikala went on ahead to save the throne. Hadithi's massive weight continued to crack under him, was unable to save this young male prince. before he fell, he said, "Be sure to let Nikala know that I love her, and Ilia too, I want the best for them....Father, I am coming home."
END OF SPOILERS
Fun facts about Skovem: -One of my very few lions that don't have a meaning to his name -An obvious relative of Simba, Muffy, etc. -Skovem was originally younger in his part, about the age of Hashir and Mtoto, but was made older since Maliki was very old and died soon after he chose between Nikala and Skovem to become the heirs of the throne. -In the original, Skovem and became King after Hashir was driven out of the Pridelands, but then since Talek and Nikala's cub love (as I called it) changed after she found him again, so she had no choice but to go back home.
