After the Battle

"All right," Busajja roared. "So, we have been defeated in the battle. It is a huge disappointment to me, and I am sure it is a disappointment to you. However, one good outcome for us came from that battle. Kurami, Mahiri, and Muuaji have captured four newborn cubs! They will be named by Mstari, Keyah, and me. We will discuss the naming shortly after this meeting."
Busajja cleared his throat. Speaking so rapidly after a battle was tough.
"Continuing. So, the four cubs are a blessing to us. We will nurture them until they are old enough to be weaned, and then until they are old enough to start training," Busajja announced. His rogues roared with devilish delight.
"Their mothers grieve!" Arida called, relishing the mother lioness' grief over their lost cubs. The red-furred lioness smiled. She had formerly been a lioness in a pride, and what made her heritage even better was that she had a special ability to think what her former Pride-mates were feeling: sadness, anger, joy, anything.
Monifa smiled and yelled approval. "I hope they feel their grief for many seasons!" she cheered.
This time, Busajja did not tell his rogue-pack to settle down. He relished their joy. Unlike some leaders, he did care about his pack. He wanted them to thrive and be well. And he also did care for cubs. Sure, he didn't treat them with affection, but he didn't necessarily hate them or abuse them. He wanted them to be tough in case battle ensued.
After the noise died out, he continued. "So, I have decided that since there are four cubs, Mstari will train one, Keyah will train one, Etana will train one, and Bendera will train one."
He took another deep breath.
"Meeting adjourned."
