I forgot to mention this sooner but in some of the upcoming chapters there are times when the story will take place in the past so I'm gonna distinguish those from the present-day events by having them be in italics.
Here's chapter five:
Chapter five: Number 28
After the fighting had ended and the winner was taken away all the wolves were to be brought back to their holding room. Despite his current physical state, Star was coherent enough to notice when the humans began to drag him back to the room. Had he not just been attacked Star would have tried to attack the humans and escape. But Star was in no position to make such a move; so Star chose to not make any waves and just go with the flow for he knew he would get his chance. He just had to wait a little longer.
Once all the wolves were back in the humans made sure the exits were sealed and all the wolves were accounted for before leaving. It took all of Star's energy and most of his time, but just when he was about to give up searching he found thirty four.
Star moved right next to him so they could talk without bothering everybody else. Star may have been feeling hurt but it was nothing compared to how thirty four was. Thirty four had countless cuts and puncture marks from teeth and claws all over his body from the fight and it was taking all of his effort just to be able to stay conscious.
"Hey" whispered Star. "Are all the fights like that?"
"Yeah, that's how it always goes." replied thirty four.
"Great" said Star sarcastically. "I gotta ask. There were these wolves that stayed behind. Did they really die?" asked Star.
"So some of them stayed, huh? Well, one of the reasons the exits close is because they go in there and kill any wolves that either can't fight anymore or have given up and want to die. But it doesn't matter to them because they just bring more in after each fight. Listen, don't be sad for them. Wherever they are now it's a lot better than here." said thirty four.
"The worst thing is that I was so weak" said Star gloomily. "I mean, the second I got in there I was attacked from behind and I couldn't even fight back."
"I know" said thirty four. "I saw it all happen and he would have killed you if I hadn't stepped in."
"Who attacked me?" said Star curiously.
"It was twenty eight. He's been here for almost as long as me and he's so desperate to get out he'll resort to fighting dirty if it means winning. Once he had almost won too but when it came down to him and the former ninety two he just wasn't strong enough. Since then he's gotten at least five other wolves on his side and he's become one of the most dangerous wolves here. If you value your life I suggest you try to avoid him, because you're just not strong enough yet."
"Well, thanks for saving me." said Star. "I can't say I blame him though. I won't say what he's doing is right, but I know how he must feel. I'd do almost anything to get out too; and I think I know a way for us all to escape" said a smiling Star.
On the other side of the room twenty eight sat against the wall with his allies to the right of him. He had been fighting for almost a year now and to him the chance of leaving was getting further out of reach with each loss. Still, he didn't care how long it took him. He was going to get back to his pack even if it killed him.
