The story of my OC Hammy and how Steele's hatred of him began. No bashing or flaming please!

Nome’s New Star

Balto and Jenna were overjoyed. Any moment, their daughter-in-law, Dusty, would deliver their grandpup. At the same time, Kodi was pacing back and forth nervously.

“Is it always this way?” Kodi asked.

Jenna chuckled.

“I find that fathers always survive the ordeal,” she said.

Kodi could only sigh and wait. Finally, a female Malamute that was there to inform them of when the pup was born popped her head out of the shed.

“Kodi, you have a healthy son,” she said proudly.

Kodi lost no time in heading in, Balto and Jenna in tow. Kodi looked between Dusty’s paws to see the furry little bundle. It had silver and white fur. Even at this young age, he looked very strong. Kodi smiled proudly.

“What are we going to name him?” Dusty asked.

Kodi thought for a few long moments.

“Hamilton,” he said.

Kodi then looked down at his newborn son.

“Hello,” he said.

And so, Kodi’s new life as a father began. Hamilton grew into a happy, energetic young puppy and quickly earned the nickname “Hammy” for his adorable antics. He stayed with Balto and Jenna often, as his parents were often on their mail runs. As he continued to grow, he began to develop strong muscles from all of his running and playing. It was this fact that attracted the attention of an up-and-coming young musher, who decided to train Hammy as a lead dog. The pup kept growing, and his new musher continued to train him. Once he reached young adulthood, he was entered in his first races. He won nearly all of them, attracting the admiration of human and dog alike. However, one dog did not share this admiration. It was Balto and Jenna’s old nemesis, Steele. Ever since his defeat at the hands of Balto, he had become a scavenger on the outskirts of Nome, living off discarded scraps. He sneered as he watched Hammy from a distance. The young dog had eclipsed everything he had ever accomplished.

“Beware, boy. I will regain my place one day,” he said angrily.

Hammy was unaware of all of this as he ran. Truly, he was the bright new star of Nome.
