BAOBABCLAN - New and Accepting!

"While some Clans spend
their time reflecting
on the powerful warriors
of ancient times, we
fear them.
"
The True Wildcats

Long ago, ancient cats roamed the earth as one. They hunted and rose young together. All was perfect.
But none of them expected what was to come.

Many years later, these cats would be split into two - Big and Little. The big cats remained large and powerful,
becoming what they are now known as Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs, while the little cats became scrawny and
powerless; nothing like their ancestors. They became wildcats. The big cats became arrogant and took more than
they needed simply because they could. Some little cats either died off, or were forced to adjust to these changes,
becoming Servals and Caracals. Others, the wildcats, decided they would take another approach. They would
work together, forming Clans that, through the power of numbers, were just as strong, or stronger as big cats.

BaobabClan was founded by a group of African Wildcats. And as time went on, their descendants (domestic cats)
came to join them, either finding their ways by sheer luck, or being brought by their twolegs and forgotten.
BaobabClan knows that if they are to survive this difficult and challenging lifestyle, they are to work together to
overcome the big cats, and to survive.

Your paws ache. Your throat feels drier than the ground you've been walking on.
How long has it been? The horizon dances in waves of heat and silhouettes of strange
animals decorate it. Where are you? One moment, you're sitting comfortably in a twoleg
contraption that swims better than an fish you've known. The next, you're left behind. Forgotten.
Then it hits you. Cat scent. You had been unaware the entire time that shadows were following you.
But you're too weak to fight back and before you know it, you're pinned against the ground. Hisses
ring in your ears, demanding to know who you are and what you're doing in BaobabClan territory.
Confused, questions fill your mind. BaobabClan? Territory?

Suddenly another cat appears before you. He looks very familiar to yourself, but then again, is quite
different. He sniffs your pelt, which makes you squirm uncomfortably before he sits beside you.

"You're not from around here, are you?"

Using what freedom you have, you wildly shake your head no. The tom smirks and signals for you to be
released, which, after some hesitation, you are.

"I am Jackalstar, leader of BaobabClan. Our numbers have been dwindling since the drought, and we
could use more warriors. We offer food, water, and protection in exchange for your service. Would you
be willing to join our Clan?"

Your eyes stretch wider at his offer. Food and water... Your stomach tightens as if to remind you
of how hungry you are. And your mind goes back to those strange silhouettes you'd seen earlier.
Protection... You rise to your paws and nod. Jackalstar seems pleased at your decision and the
three of you travel together towards a large, fat tree. More cat scent tells you many more cats have been
here, and with another sniff, you learn they are still here. Jackalstar leads you to a gaping hole within
the tree's trunk, and all three of you leap inside and are greeted by many voices. Jackalstar halts you and
climbs up to a thick branch. As if instinctively, many cats file in and sit beside you, either staring up at
Jackalstar, or looking at you questioningly. Suddenly Jackalstar's voice rings out, making you jump.

"This cat will be joining BaobabClan, to train and serve as a warrior. Although they are
new and unfamiliar with our ways, I expect our Clan to greet this newcomer as one of our own. From
this moment on, you will be known as..."

The Baobab tree makes up the
majority of BaobabClan's camp.
Near it's base is a large hole,
gored by elephants and then
hallowed out by Wildcats that
is big enough for the entire Clan
to enter to escape the heat of
the day, and the rains of the
wet seasons. The nursery is
set here, and filled with soft
grasses, fur, and ostrich feathers.

The branches are normally
bare, but are known to sprout
thick, waxy leaves during
newleaf and bear large fruits
which attract elephants, birds,
bushbabies, monkeys, baboons,
and two-legs. The pollen is
thick and sticky, and can be
used for medicinal purposes
as well as den and nest
building. They provide shelter
for the Clan cats during the day,
and protection from most
predators other than leopards
and birds.

The bark is thick and
absorbent. It captures water for
the drought, and the water can
be accessed if the bark is
punctured or clawed deeply. It
can also be used to prevent
infection by being chewed and
applied to a wound.

Beside the tree near its roots
is an
abandoned hyena den. This
den is used for the elders and
medicine cats, as it can be easily
accessed. But this also means
it can be accessed by predators,
and it is guarded by at least two
warriors throughout the day.

The baobab tree is set in the
middle of a
grassland that is
normally a yellow-brown in color
until the wet season, where it
then becomes much taller,
thicker, and green. Many
rodents, birds, and herbs can
be found within the grass
throughout the seasons, but
large creatures and predators
are known to inhabit it as well.
No cat is allowed to leave the
base of the tree alone in case of
danger.

Off to the right a little ways is a
large, normally
fast-flowing river,
except during the drought. It is a decent
hunting ground for prey like birds,
rodents, and fish, but many other animals
can also be encountered there as well.
Hippos are normally further into
the river, but are known to come
onto land. Crocodiles inhabit the
river and its banks, and are also
dangerous. Its eggs, however,
are quite a treat if they can be
found.

◘ Rodents -
Very common, from the simple mouse
and vole to the mole rat. One cat.

◘ Fish -
Uncommon, as the water levels must
be just right and the water is
crocodile and hippo-free. One to
two cats.

◘ Birds -
Common to uncommon, depending
on the size. The larger, the harder
it is to catch. One to two cats.

◘ Lizards -
Quite common, found beneath
rocks and stones, and within
the Baobab's branches. Their
eggs are delicious. One cat.

◘ Bugs -
Very common, can be found
anywhere, ranging in sizes
and colors. Easy prey for kits
and apprentices. One cat.

◘ Meerkats -
Quite uncommon, and even
rare to catch. Their dens
aren't the easiest to enter,
and they're quite fierce. A
hunting patrol.

◘ Warthog shoats -
Common sight, but a difficult
catch. They're a little large,
and their mothers defend them
fiercely. Never enter their
dens, or risk getting gored.
A hunting patrol.

◘ Crow-food/carrion -
Quite common, as lions and
leopards are known to hunt
for sport and not for survival.
After they have their fill, they
may leave scraps for the
scavengers. Beat the jackals
and vultures to it. If prey is
scarce, cats may be tempted
to eat crow-food, and contract
illnesses from it.

Image
◘ Elephants - Common - Uncommon
Large and heavy, they can be
a potential threat to the Clan
if any cats are underfoot. Elephants
are also known to gore and knock
over trees, so beware of elephants.

◘ Herding Animals - Common
Ranging from the tiny Thompson's
Gazelle to the large Wildebeest, these
animals can often be spotted throughout
the day grazing. Normally harmless, but
be on the look out for the predators they
bring with them, and watch for any
stampedes, as many cats can be crushed
beneath many pounding hooves when the
herd is in a panic. Stay away from Water
Buffalo at all cost, as they are extremely
aggressive.

◘ Aardvark - Uncommon
Completely harmless, this medium-sized,
long-tongued creature may show itself
occasionally to feed out of termite and
ant mounds.

◘ Warthogs - Common - Uncommon
Not usually aggressive, but can be
provoked to chase. Do not corner
one in its den, or you can be gored.
Sows bear litters of three to five
shoats, which can be hunted.

◘ Snakes - Common - Rare
Depending on the type, they can be
harmless or extremely venomous.
Small green vine snakes can be found
within the Baobab tree. Venomous
adders are normally found in the
water. However be on the look out
for dark-colored ones. The black
mamba's bite is the deadliest and
can kill a cat within seconds.

◘ Ostrich - Uncommon
These large birds don't normally
stay near the tree very long, but
are known to build nests
throughout the territory. Their
feathers make perfect bedding
for nests.

◘ Cheetahs - Uncommon
Cheetahs can be seen hunting,
but they rarely attack cats unless
they are near their den sites.

◘ Caracals - Common - Uncommon
Caracals are normally spotted
whenever birds are plentiful. These
skilled hunters are known to leap
very high to catch flying birds.
They usually ignore Wildcats.

◘ Giraffe - Uncommon - Rare
These tall patched creatures
are usually harmless, but posses
a very powerful kick if they feel
their calves are threatened. They
feed off the leaves of the Baobab
tree in newleaf.

◘ Rhinos - Rare
Extremely rare to find, these
large beasts hardly ever show
themselves. They are known to
be territorial, but usually only to
each other. Their markings can be
found on large baobab trees.
Image
◘ Lions -
Quite common, as a pride's
territory overlaps BaobabClan's
territory. They're extremely
dangerous and powerful. Lure
them away from camp and hide
if possible. They aren't the best
climbers, but can raid the tree.

◘ Leopards -
Quite common, but aren't
normally interested in the Clan
unless they have a den with cubs
nearby. They are known to raid
camp, and can easily kill a young
cat or elder if they don't hide fast
enough. They are excellent climbers,
so it is best to leave the tree and
hide until they lose interest and
move on.

◘ Hyenas -
Extremely common. They have an
excellent sense of smell and sight,
and normally travel in groups. Big
patrols can frighten a couple off, but
it is best to get as high up the tree
as possible, since they are poor
climbers.

◘ Hawks, eagles, owls, and storks -
A common sight, but don't
attack extremely often. They are
tempted to attack small kits that are
exploring, so kits must be kept under
surveillance at all times. Storks are
most dangerous during their nesting
season, as they focus their diets from
carrion to small mammals for their
offspring. Two to three cats can
fend these birds off.

◘ Crocodiles -
Although uncommon, they are almost
always inhabiting the river. The mothers
are very fierce, especially when defending
their nests. Smaller crocodiles can be
chased off the river banks, but never
approach adult crocodiles. Patrol the river
and banks for any crocodiles, and avoid
entering the river when crocodiles are spotted
or nearby. Run in a straight line if being
chased by one on land.

◘ Hippos -
Hardly ever seen so far from the river, hippos
are usually in or near the water. They rarely
attack unless provoked, but males are
territorial and can be extremely dangerous.
Stay as far away from hippo calves as
possible, as the mothers are very protective
of their young. If being chased, dart in
multiple directions and climb the nearest tree.

◘ Honey Badgers -
Common. Although they stand shorter
than a cat, they are excellent defenders,
and fierce attackers. They have thick
skin that is extremely difficult to
penetrate, except for the area behind the
head. Several sharp bites to the nape of
the neck should be enough to chase one off.
They are attracted most easily during
newleaf by the Baobab's fruits, and feast on
honeycombs and small mammals. A couple
cats can ward it off.

◘ Baboons -
Uncommon, but do visit the tree from time
to time, especially during newleaf for the
Baobab's fruits. They are very fierce and
can easily kill a full-grown warrior with their
long, sharp canines. Lure them from the tree
if possible, and remain hidden within
the tree or hyena den until they lose interest
in the fruits. An entire patrol may be able to
chase one off, but baboons normally travel
in family groups.

◘ African Painted Dogs -
Usually uncommon, these thin and colorful dogs
normally travel in packs and don't usually leave
their den sites. If a pack happens to travel by,
climb up into the tree and wait for them to pass.

◘ Twolegs -
Normally rare, twolegs usually only appear during
newleaf for the Baobab's fruits. But they are
known to capture cats, and even kill them. Watch
for twolegs with sharp sticks, and do not approach
them unless it is absolutely necessary. Hiss and spit
at twoleg kits and unarmed twolegs to ward them
off.

◘ Monsters -
Extremely rare, and they normally stick
to worn
down paths, which are nowhere near the Clan's
territory. They rarely stray from these
paths, but it is not unheard of them coming
quite close to the tree. Do not exit the hyena
den if one approaches, and stay hidden within
the tree until it passes. Do not fight them.
