Kate couldn't remember anything after the point where that dart had hit her, which probably was for the best. She regained consciousness after a few hours and at first she couldn't even recall what had happened. Only after a few moments did she remember arguing with Humphrey inside the forest, but after that everything was a complete blur. Her eyes widened in shock and even fear when she suddenly realized that, while the last thing she remembered was being in the forest, she was no longer there, and Humphrey was no where in sight.

It seemed like she was no longer in the forest (or maybe she was - it was impossible to tell because she was locked inside some sort of box). Also, she had a feeling that she was moving, something which made her entire situation even more confusing. The lack of freefom of movement, added to the fact that she couldn't remember how she'd ended up in this predicament, sent the alpha into quite a frenzy. All of a sudden she heard a groan somewhere next to her, somehow recognizing it as Humphrey's. "Humphrey! Is that you?!" She never thought she'd be so happy to hear his voice. Perhaps the omega knew what was going on. "Can you hear me? I'm stuck!"

To say that waking up in complete darkness was unsettling for Humphrey was an understatement. He was never a big fan of enclosed dark spaces, and as he slowly began to wake up, he initially thought that he was back in his den, so he allowed himself some more shut-eye as the drowsiness ever so slowly lifted. When he opened his eyes again, he was now alert enough to feel the ground move beneath him, and that was when he began to worry. Feeling his way around wherever he was, he felt the flat, angled enclosure he was in. Has to be a box. A few dots of light exposed the outside air, but they were to high up for Humphrey to see out of. The omega groaned when he realized that he was trapped in a very dark box, and that he was moving.

Apparently someone heard his groan, for he then heard Kate's calls from somewhere outside the box. Even with his worry and in the blackness, Humphrey smiled in relief. "Kate! Kate, where are you? I'm stuck too, in a box!"

Shouting towards each other, the alpha and omega came to a conclusion that they were being taken somewhere, probably by humans. The wolves didn't know of anything else that can do such a thing.

With Kate's presence comforting him somewhat, Humphrey felt around his box again, brushing against a bowl, and causing a liquid to splash a bit. "Hey, Kate! They left me some water!" For some reason, he felt really thirsty, not to mention hungry, but there was only the liquid bowl in the box. Eagerly leaning down for a drink, the omega spat out the fluid the moment he got some in his mouth. "Nope! Kate, that was definitely not water!"

He lay down in the box, trying to ignore the constant motion. He wasn't used to sitting on ground that moved beneath him. "Hey, Kate, do you think they will take us somewhere with food?"

Kate was even more relieved to discover that it was indeed Humphrey and not some stranger. From the sound of it Humphrey was unharmed, which was also good. Coming to the conclusion that they were being taken somewhere by humans, however, wasn't as good. Kate didn't know much about these creatures, but that was what made it all the more concerning. The fact that they'd been able to knock them out like that and restrain them in moving boxes only made her worry about what else these humans could do.

She couldn't stop her ears from perking up when she heard Humphrey mention the word water. Looking around her own box, the alpha felt quite disappointed to see no liquid of any kind in it, not even on the floor. "You have water?" she asked, only to hear the omega spit something out and claim that, whatever it was that he was 'given', it wasn't water. Ew. Suddenly, as Humphrey mentioned being taken to some place with food, the alpha could remember hearing other wolves say that they'd seen humans hunt caribou before. "Or maybe we are the food." Sure, she and Humphrey were wolves, not caribou, but who knew?

Why did Kate have to say that? As soon as she mentioned that perhaps they are the food, whatever comfort Humphrey had that was keeping him sane while locked up in the box plummeted quickly. "Kate? Maybe you're right..." He tried to bang around the walls, somehow hoping that one of them will fall down or break, giving him an opportunity to escape. The cage held. "Hey, Kate, if you're listening, how about... GET ME OUT OF HERE!"

The omega didn't need to see Kate to know that she was handling the situation a lo better than him, but he didn't care. She was an alpha, and most likely trained how to handle stressful events, while he was an omega: his job was to prevent such things from happening in the first place, and even stop them should they arise, but now he had no control over anything, and even worse, he wasn't stopping others from having a bad time, it was him that was in the box!

Humphrey continued to try and force his way out, but he had to stop when the walls wouldn't budge, and all he gained was bruising himself from the impacts. The scared omega lay on the floor and hoped that this would soon be over. "Kate, if you're still there... tell me you're still here."

In Alpha School Kate had been taught to think of different possible ways of completing a task or solving a problem while bringing all sorts of things into consideration (like safety, for example) in order to pick the best solution. Because she was so deep in her own thoughts, added to the loud noises produced by the engine of the vehicle they were both on, she didn't hear Humphrey when the omega desperately asked her to help him get out of his cage (not that there was anything she could have done had she heard him).

One thing she was sure about; whatever it was the humans were planning to do with them, they were going to have to open the cages she and Humphrey had been placed in first. Then, the best option in all regards would be to run, if possible, and try to get away, because there had to be a reason why her mother has never said anything about biting a human in the neck before (if humans even had necks, that is). Right, that all seemed quite clear. Her ears perked up when she heard Humphrey calling to her again. "I'm here." she said, sounding somewhat confused. It's not like she could have gone anywhere. It slightly worried her to hear the sudden change in the omega's tone, but she couldn't blame him for being scared because she was in the exact same situation as he was. At least they weren't alone. It would have been even worse had they been alone.

Just then the feeling as if the ground was moving underneath them stopped and the noise of the engine became weaker, eventually dying out. "We stopped." said Kate, unable to restrain herself from stating the obvious. "I don't know what they want with us, but they're going to have to open these boxes first." she added, hoping that Humphrey would catch her drift. They could hear footsteps coming towards them before the cages they were in were suddenly lifted and placed down on the ground, startling both of them.

Kate could then hear one of the humans fiddling with something on the cage and knew that the time to make a run for it was nearing. A few moments passed before the door of her cage was lifted upwards, causing her to be almost blinded by the comparatively large amount of light outside. That, however, didn't make her forget what they had to do. She immediately leaped outside of the cage and broke into a run, looking sideways in order to see whether Humphrey had done the same. Luckily, he had.

Being an alpha as well as the future leader of her pack, it was her responsibility to make make sure that her pack members were safe. She slowed down a little in order to let Humphrey run slightly ahead of her, making it easier to make sure that he wasn't falling behind.

While Kate's tone didn't comfort Humphrey much when she replied to him, the simple fact that she was there and hear him was enough to keep the omega from desperately trying to get out. After what felt too long, the ground beneath him stopped shaking. He cowered against a wall, afraid of what might happen, and certainly not wanting to be eaten. The moment light broke through as the door was lifted, Humphrey was already sprinting out and away, not looking where he was going, just knowing that he was outdoors again, and wanting to get as far away as he can from that dark box.

However, as an omega, Humphrey wasn't known for his endurance, and fairly quickly he felt himself begin to tire out, and had to slow down. Shortly after, he stopped altogether in order to catch his breath. Kate stopped next to him, and then Humphrey realized, feeling somewhat ashamed about it, that in his desperate attempt to get away, that he didn't stop and look to see if Kate had escaped as well. But she was here with him, and he knew that he was safe once more.

With this feeling of safety, his playful personality returned as well. Looking around where they were, he couldn't identify any familiar landmarks. The two wolves weren't in Jasper anymore. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, was it? Humphrey looked around some more, smiling at all the new sights, sounds, and even smells. "Hey, Kate, look a this! Do you know where we are? It's amazing!"

Kate took a quick glance over her shoulder when she noticed Humphrey begin to slow down in order to make sure that they weren't being followed. Fortunately enough they weren't, so there was no need to urge him on. She also slowed down, eventually coming to a stop. Unlike her, the omega seemed to be completely out of breath, but she took no notice of it because she was too busy being relieved at the fact that both of them had gotten out of their predicament in one piece.

The alpha took a better look around and, like Humphrey, could not identify anything familiar. She didn't know where exactly the humans had taken them, but it was quite obvious that they were no longer in Jasper Park Canada. "Amazing?" she asked, looking around with annoyance. She didn't have time to worry about whether the place looked amazing. Looking up at the sky, she panicked when she saw the sun hovering above them. The moonlight howl must have ended hours ago, and there was no telling whether it's been days since Humphrey and her had been removed from Jasper.

Of course, the omega did not see their situation as a bad thing, but then again he still hadn't a clue as to just how important the union between her and Garth was for the future of the western and the eastern packs. "No, this isn't amazing." she said, beginning to nervously pace back and fourth. "This is bad. This is really, really bad." There was no doubt that her parents and the rest of the pack were worried about where they'd vanished to. Not only that, but what would Tony and the rest of the eastern pack think of her disappearance? Surely being taken away by humans was a good enough excuse, but they didn't know that that's what had happened.

Humphrey knew right away that he said something wrong, but for the love of life, he couldn't figure out what he said that could have made her so worried. After all, if this place was 'bad', wouldn't he have noticed something by now? Not taking any chances, the omega moved closer to her, hoping that she will be able to protect him from any possible danger. "What's wrong, Kate? Why is this place bad? Is there something big and scary out there? 'Cause I don't see anything, and..."

That's when he noticed that Kate wasn't looking around for danger, but was instead pacing back and forth. Even though he didn't know what was wrong, he didn't need to ask to know that something was worrying Kate, and a lot. "Kate... what's wrong? What's going on?" Just as alphas had a natural instinct to hunt and protect the pack, Humphrey just couldn't help himself but to try and help Kate, if in the end only because her pacing was beginning to drive him crazy. After all, it wasn't like it was going to accomplish anything, and simply watching Kate was making his head spin. "Okay, Kate, just start by telling me everything. What's going on, why wherever we are is 'bad', what's going on, why are you pacing so much, what's going on..." He took a short pause to 'try and collect his thoughts', before "and most importantly, tell me WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?"

The omega had shouted the last part in order to get Kate out of her pacing and to actually listen to him, knowing that he would break her concentration and get her to talk.

There has always been a pretty big difference between just hearing what somebody else was saying to you to actually listening to what you were being told. One might not see the lack of similarities, but there have been situations were one said something and the other ended up actually being surprised that anything had been said, having been so distracted that he had failed to notice the fact he had heard anything. Nevertheless, situations like that were quite common, and Kate was proving to be a pretty fine example of the phenomenon.

The alpha was so busy trying to think of a solution to her and Humphrey's (as well as both pack's) very serious problem that she only remembered the fact that Humphrey was still there after he'd lost his patience and yelled in order to get her attention. There was probably no reason to hide any information from the omega, not to mention that he would have found out anyway had the two packs been united as planned. Hopefully it wasn't too late to unite them and solve the feud in a peaceful way.

"As you may already know, the Eastern Pack's been having a lot of trouble gathering food because there's no caribou left in their territory." said Kate, sitting down (because she'd also grown a little dizzy from all the pacing). "That was why they interrupted our hunt." She paused for a short moment. "Garth and all those eastern wolves were there at the moonlight howl because that the only way to solve this before the situation takes a turn for the worst is to unite the packs." She paused again.

"This was the only possible solution that has been come up with, and the only way to achieve it is for me to-" she hesitated in her speech for a short moment but did not seem to notice it. "I have to marry Garth." The whole idea of being forced to marry a complete stranger returned once again to her center of attention, because as good as the impression she'd gotten of Garth was, she still barely knew him. "That's why we must get back to Jasper. The eastern pack is impatient enough as it is and I have no right to blame them."

With that she stood back up and, after looking around for a short moment, picked a random direction and began to walk in it. There was a very, very slim chance that the area they were in was simply a different part of Jasper Park Canada but she doubted that was the case. Either way, the first step of getting out of the mess would be to find out where they were.

Humphrey stood frozen to the spot. Kate was... getting married... to Barf? No wonder she was so eager to get rid of him during the moonlight howl. And yet...

As an omega, Humphrey knew all along that he would never even be able to look at Kate funny. It was forbidden. Despite that, somehow for all this time, he had somehow managed to fool himself into thinking that if he had only tried hard enough, he would at least get even a small chance with her. After all, she was his friend, while that Garth bloke... how long did she even know that he even existed? Of course reality had to come in and slap him hard across the muzzle. No, as an omega, he needs to stop fooling around and get serious. He can never have Kate, and the harder he will try to ignore that fact, the more it will hurt. Life can be so unfair...

Snapping out of his daze, Humphrey realized that Kate was already walking away somewhere. He watched her go, conflicting thoughts battling inside his head until he yet again realized that in this unknown land, it is best that they stick together. "Kate, wait up!"

Dashing forwards, he caught up to the alpha and walked beside her, trying to ignore the fact that now it was official: she was a lost cause. But if she's only doing it to prevent a war... that;s almost as though she's doing his job. Will he be so selfish as to not do his part in preventing hostilities? "Kate, I just... We'll get home. Before things turn sour."
