Charleigh Jaybyrd lay awake in her plump, oversized bed, pondering her life.

She'd been born to a standard family in District 12, the eldest of three children, her and her two brothers. Her mother had died in labor with the youngest child and her father spent much time in the coal mine.

She'd supported her younger brothers as best as she could since she was old enough to use her rudely crafted bow, a standard weapon because if its ease to create. She'd hunted, against the laws, and often came home bruised from the precautionary, genetically mutated creatures the Capitol had released to run off hunters.

Ever since she was twelve she'd entered her name multiple times at each Hunger Games for the food. It didn't catch up to her until several weeks ago, shortly after her sixteenth birthday, when she was chosen as tribute, along with Ryder, a boy she'd not paid much attention to until now, at which point they'd become pretty good friends. Now, the Hunger Games began tomorrow.

And Charleigh was worried.

Tabatha Willows threw the silken sheets off her luxury bed. She smiled to herself with pride and slipped onto the solid aluminium floor.

She had been born into a family of wealth and riches in district 1, the only child of the household. Her parents had no time for her, but had invested greatly in her training.

She had the best roasted food in all the city, and had often shunned it, for it still was not good enough. Her father had paid millions to get her into this Games, of course, they had tried since she was 12, but now was the right time. She was now sixteen and was she ready!

The Games started tomorrow and she couldn't wait.

Day 1:

Charleigh clutched the string of crude wooden and stone beads around her neck as she stood in the dimly light tube, just waiting for the Games to begin. She stiffened as she rose out of the ground. Through the clear partitioning, she could see the others around her. To her right was the boy from her district, Ryder, and around her she recognized a few of the faces from training.

Part of her was scared, but, in some ways, more of her was confident. She knew she could survive, at least until the others died or killed each other off. She shrugged off her doubts of killing when she needed to.

Zayden couldn't hold back a slight smirk as he cast subtle glances at his enemies. He'd been training for so long and he and the other tribute from District 1, Tabatha, were going to win, trample the others' corpses beneath their boots.

He felt a little sorry for the other tributes, who had fear and confusion written all across their faces. Pitiful, he thought, noticing the trembling of a young girl.

He glared a little at the two or three other, trained tributes. None of them were from the same district nor would they work together. Which is why Tabs and I will win, he thought smugly, then averted his gaze from the girl from District 12, who seemed to be trying her best to be brave. Sad.

Tabatha glances around and meets eyes with Zayden. She smirks and glares at the district twelve tribute with disgust. Her eyes narrow as the gong rings out, she speeds forward and sprints to the golden cornucopia. She sees a sack of weapons inside, just by the outer ring of the entrance. She grabs it, but turns and comes face to face with another tribute, she pulls out the knife from the open zip of the pack and slashes wildly at the intruder who drops to the ground, dead already, the canon sounds and she runs outside to kill off any more tributes, she sees Charleigh and runs after her, knife gleaming in the early morning sunlight. Her hair whips wildly about as she rounds the corner of the forest.

Charleigh, using the speed she'd gained from hunting game and escaping, had snatched a bow and hunting knife of of a table and had just scooped up a survival pack as she sight Tabatha. Her mind a blur, she dashed into the woods. Her ankle caught on a small stick and she fell forward, a searing pain from her calf alerted her to Tabatha's being right behind. She viciously swung her pack around, hitting her attacker in the face, then scramble off, eager to be away from the clamor and rush.

Zayden was along in a few moments, with two survival packs and a long, flared sword strapped to his broad back. He gave Tabatha his hand and pulled her up. "The other trainees have set up around the cornucopia," he informed Tabatha. "We should find a camp and attack really early tomorrow. I don't think we have to worry about anyone else." He smirked. "Now c'mon, I got you some food in case we get separated and I hope you be a hog with your gold mine of sharp, evil goodies."

She laughs and flicks the hair out of her eyes. Then, she sashays away with her knife in her belt. "Good idea." She smirks at ZAyden.

Walaghai runs from the horn and straight on climbs up into the trees, he sis and sobs as the fear sets in.

"Thanks," he followed her through the woods in search of a good base. Finally, they set up in a small cave that opens at the top of a hill, the perfect place to keep watch. They only stumbled across one tribute, which they easily dispatched.

Charleigh had drug herself up a tree and commenced to weave a sort of camouflage panel to disguise her location with. As the day began to wear, she brought a bit of food and bandaged her injured leg up.

"Hey, you!" Walaghai calls to Charleigh.

Charleigh spun, snatching her bow off of the limb it was resting on and pointed at the strange. When he made no move she lowered her weapon. "You know you're gonna get yourself killed if you do that to other tributes," she said dryly.
