The engine of the pickup truck roared as it traveled across the snowy landscape. The human driving it was singing quietly to himself along with the radio. Sitting in the passenger seat of this truck was a large white wolf. He was looking out the window of the truck at the snowy scenery of his soon to be new home.

"Amarok. I don't think you'll have to try to hard to get used to this place boy." The human said as he stroked the wolf's head. Amarok yawned, revealing his razor sharp teeth and then continued looking out the window, whilst wagging his tail. Prior to moving out here, they lived on the other side of the woods but it had become too secluded. No one dared live on the other side, because that was where the wolves were usually inclined to go for food, due to the low population of humans. That made it far more dangerous.

Now, they were moving to this new village of Nome. Amarok sat up in the seat, with his paws against the door, and his face looking outside. They were driving through the village itself now, and Amarok took note of several dogs in the area, and smiled slightly, wagging his tail. At least here he wouldn't be so bored or lonely, as it seemed there were others like him!

The truck screeched to a stop near a medium sized cabin around the borders of Nome. Amarok barked excitingly and wagged his tail. "Calm down boy! I'll let you out in a moment!" The human said as he turned the key, silencing the great mechanical beast. He then stepped out of his car, and went around to the other side. The human opened the door for Amarok and the young wolf jumped out of the seat, rolling around in the snow.

"Haha! Boy o boy! I think you love this place more then I do!" His human said as he stroked Amarok's head with both hands. Amarok wagged his tail and quickly ran up to the wooden door of their new home. Amarok's master quickly opened the door, and went to the back of the truck to get some of his belongings.

Amarok's claws clicked against the wooden floor as he entered his new home. His eyes scanned the room for a comfortable spot for him to call "bed". He looked to a mat in front of the currently dead fireplace and walked towards it. He walked around the mat for a bit and finally laid down on it. He was exhausted from his trip, considering he couldn't sleep because of all the bumps and rough turns. Amarok closed his blue eyes slowly, and eventually dozed off.

When Amarok awoke once more, he looked around the cabin to see all the furniture and personal belongings of his master were in their place. He gazed at the heads of game animals that he hunted over the fireplace. A deer, a moose, and a grizzly bear. Amarok shuddered slightly, as he had encounters with all three of the creatures those heads belonged to, and it wasn't at all fun.

His master walked back into the cabin and put a leash on Amarok. "Come on boy. We got to go to the post office."

Amarok was confused what the string around his collar was for. He never had to wear it, and when his master began to walk it dragged him with his master. Amarok had no choice but to follow.

Amarok walked through the village of Nome, his massive paws leaving deep prints in the snow. Several dogs looked over at him, he smiled and they ran off quickly. Amarok figured those were the weirdos of the neighborhood.

Amarok and his master reached the post office, and Amarok's leash was tied around a sturdy post. Amarok sat down near the post, knowing if he tried to get away he'd just choke himself. His master went into the post office and Amarok let out a deep sigh.

He looked around for any trace of the dogs he saw near here as he was driving, but nothing. No one was here anymore.

It was another normal day in the small village of Nome. The air was chilly and the snow was cold. Balto had just left the shipwreck that he called home and was taking a walk around the village. He saw several dogs who he knew and some smiled, and some still gave him the dirty look. Balto let out a sigh and continued walking.

Suddenly, Balto jumped! He had been startled by the sound of a truck. Curious as he was, he decided to go check things out. He followed the sound and then hid behind the corner of the house, worried he would startle the human if he got too close. But what he saw surprised him. The human came with a wolf. Not a dog, but a wolf. Balto's eyes widened. Sure, the wolf acted like a dog, but it was no dog. It was a wolf, and it was white. Balto smiled at how the wolf resembled his mother, but he quickly shook that thought away when he smelled that it was a male wolf. There was no chance that this was a female.

Balto continued observing as the canine ran into his new home. He hoped that the wolf would like it here. He then looked over to the owner who had to carry in all his stuff. Balto wanted to help, but he didn't want to intrude. After a while, Balto walked away and continued walking around town, saying hello to his friends and doing what he did in his free time.

He had spent alot of time doing his thing and had decided it was time for a meal. He started walking through the village again, heading home, when he saw the wolf tied up outside of the post office. The wolf looked so lonely and Balto expected that every dog in the village, except Jenna and his kids, would treat this wolf just like he himself had once been treated. Balto decided that dinner could wait and walked over to the wolf, and as he was walking, he felt like a bit of happiness was spreading through his body. He knew he was doing the right thing. As soon as he was close enough he spoke up, "Hi there. My name is Balto. I saw you and your master come in earlier. What's your name?"

Kodi sat on a hill and looked out to the distance. It's been around a year since they've beaten the bushplane, and since then Kodi happily continued with his job. He had also been in a few sled races during that time, sometimes he was even placed as the leading dog, he felt proud about it, and most important he knew that his father was proud of him.

He had always looked up to his father. He had been told more than once that before Balto helped saved Nome, no one actually payed attention to him, most even teased him all the time. But even after Balto did what he did, some of the dogs continued teasing him for being a half breed, some of them even picked on him or one of his siblings. Kodi knew that he and his siblings might not show it, but they were also part wolf, even if it was less than a half.

He was still hanging around his friends from the post office on most of his free time, which was of course when ever they didn't have to deliver mail. But lately, every once in a while, he used to go up this very hill, sit on it, and just look at the distance (It was within sight of the post office, so Kodi couldn't miss if his master ever called him and the rest of his friends). He didn't know why, but it somehow felt natural to him, and he spent hours on doing that. He even felt like going out of Nome on his own sometimes, and just acting wild for a while (He sometimes felt like howling, but didn't since it sounded more like a whine rather than wolf-like). But he never left the town on his own to do so, since it was a very dangerous thing to do. He might run into a pack of wolves, break a leg, get lost, and all the other things a mother would use to keep you away from trouble, even if you were already grown-up. He had never encountered a real wolf before. Sure, he had seen packs of wolves pass by he town every once in a while, but he never actually came close to one and actually studied it or somethng.

Only his dad encountered wolves, and not only his own mom. Kodi remembered the many times Balto told him about his grand mother, and Kodi sometimes wandered if she was still alive somewhere. When his dad went off to find Aleu, that was when both him and her ran into an entire pack, which wasn't a very friendly encounter now that he thought about it. As some wolves were not as bad as everyone thought, encountering more than one could be a bad idea in case they didn't like dogs, or were desperatly looking for food.

After a short while, he turned around to head back home after deciding that he'd had enough observing for today. And just in time too, he could see Balto on another side of the street, walking in the direction of the post office. He was used to Balto coming to see him every once in a while, and so he left the hill and began to walk back to the post office, feeling like he could really talk to him right now. Maybe sometime his dad could take him outta town so that Kodi could experience some wolf-like life. He felt like it would be fun doing so, since he was somewhere down himself part wolf as well.

It didn't take Kodi too long to get close to the post office, where he could see his dad standing outside. But his dad seemed to be talking to someone, Kodi couldn't see who since Balto was blocking his view, but managed to hear part of what his dad said "...I saw you and your master come in earlier. What's your name?" Kodi figured that there was a new human in Nome, might as well be frendly and say hello. "Hi dad." Kodi said, walking to his father's side so that he could see and greet the new human's dog-wow, that was a wolf, an actual artic wolf. "Um... hello." Kodi forced himself to say, so to not seem rude like most of the dogs who were probably not going to treat the wolf very kindly.

He took some moments to get a good look at the wolf. He could tell why dog feared wolves, for now he saw that wolves were slightly larger than dogs, and un-including humans, most dogs didn't like things that were bigger than them. And they were wild animals of course. But he could tell this wolf wasn't the type of wolf you should be afraid of, since he was tied with a rope, and since Kodi could see a human in the post office (a one that he hadn't seen before in Nome) he figured out that this was the wolve's owners. If a human kept a wolf, that probably meant that the wolf was friendly

Amarok was thinking whether his life would be any different in Nome while he waited for his master. In the forest he saw little to no dogs, and the wolves he actually DID see were not as "friendly" as he was. In Nome, the dogs seemed to fear him, and he knew why for sure. They were right to be afraid. Wolves in the area were far more vicious then any bear or moose. Amarok knew that many of the Nome's people carried weapons in their homes in case a wolf made its way INTO Nome. This was probably why his master bought him the red collar. To make sure the humans recognized him as a domesticated wolf.

Once he heard Balto's greeting, he turned his head slowly and gazed at the wolf-dog. He had the features of both a dog and wolf. Amarok looked down to his own huge paws then at Balto's. "My name is Amarok. I've heard of you before. You actually made a run through my forest at one point or another." Amarok said quietly. Whilst he replied, he noticed the other dog walk towards them.

The other dog was far more hesitant to speak with him than Balto was. After the maroon furred dog spoke to his father and gave him a greeting, Amarok actually began to chuckle. "I'm not tied up for any bad reason. You can close the distance between us." Amarok stated with a grin. "My master feels its best because the people of Nome don't seem to be fond of wolves. This is just a measure for MY security." Amarok explained.

Kodi processed what the white snow-furred wolf said. Even though he was sure that he was standing right next to his father, apperantly he was standing slightly farther from Amarok than Balto was. And he was being hesitant, even if he knew that the wolf was no threat. He sighed at the bad first impression he must have made on the new-comer, he didn't want to seem like the rest of the dogs who were going to avoid Amarok and tease him all the time. He walked a little closer so that he was now standing next to his father. "Sorry." he said, taking a peek into the post office to see if any of his friends were inside, but no dog was in there. 'I'm Kodi" he added, this time in a normal, non-hesitating tone.

Kodi wasn't surprised when the wolf said that he's heard of Kodi's father before. Many knew of what Balto did; Humans, dogs, mooses and apperantly wolves as well. "So, are you just passing by at Nome? Or are you staying?" he asked after a short silence. He always wanted to get to know a wolf, and spend some time with one. He hoped that Amarok would be staying for at least a while, so that Kodi could get to know about his life. He could show him around the town and all of that. Maybe if the rest of the dogs saw Amarok with him, they wouldn't be mean and avoid him.
