Mbili was named after the Swahili word for "two," as she is the second of her litter. She was always passed over by her parents. Ukamilifu, her older brother, had been the favored one because he was going to be the heir. Mbili knew that it was unfair that the heir had to be a male, and protested.
Mbili's parents didn't care that she was the more mature one, the proper one, the one who didn't get into trouble every five minutes. They only cared that he was a male, the "stronger" cub.
Fed up with her dejected life, Mbili ran away and found a better life in the Flowing Stream Pride.
