Isabelle's necklace sends a snow wave Cole's way, hitting him in the chest and reaching his heart. Strands in his mane turned white. Eventually, Cole's heart would freeze over and he'd literally become an ice statue; only an act of true love would save him.
(Remember that part in the movie, Arcee? That Elsa gets pissed and throws a snowball at Anna? I totally need to learn how to do that, best way of self defense EVER.)
