During Mufasa's early reign, the war between lions and leopards was at its highest, many casualties on both sides. But the hostilities died down with the birth of Simba. Growing up, Weusi had a best friend called Thanda. Neither cub knew that they were supposed to be enemies. It was only until he was older that he lived in bliss, and then his mother told him to stay away from the young lioness. She filled her head with lies and rumours, twisting his mind and turning lions into evil creatures that should never be trusted. It was then that Weusi and Thanda parted ways.
Many years passed and things had changed. Mufasa was dead; the Pridelands ruined by Scar and his hyena friends. It was this time of trouble that brought the two great cats together. A few leopards would escort pregnant lionesses or those with cubs to other lands; they fought any hyena that dared to stop them. Weusi was no different. He had killed many hyenas, but it was not without his own losses. A daring hyena blinded him in one eye whilst another ripped a chunk out of his shoulder. The scars left behind were permanent and became a constant reminder of the madness of tyranny.
News soon spread of a strange lion on the Pridelands borders, Weusi soon gained some hope. Someone would finally end Scar's reign of insanity. The day came when that Lion finally killed Scar and regained his true place, as King Simba. An angry lioness by the name of Zira killed Simba's first born in revenge for Scar's murder and as a result, she and those who followed her were banished to the Outlands. It was one fateful night, a few weeks after Zira's exile, which Weusi came across Thanda. The sight of her that night broke his heart. She was underweight and her glossy coat had become dim with lack of food. They rekindled their friendship as he helped her hunt and stood guard while she ate. And after a while, their friendship blossomed.
Weusi soon found himself as a father of two cubs, but only one survived. Despite the truce between their two species, a union such as this was considered sinful and resulting offspring was to be killed upon birth. Zira found about his and Thanda's mating, and so she took it upon herself to dispatch the sinning lioness and that abomination of a cub. Weusi lost his mate that night, but his daughter survived. He never took on another mate after loosing Thanda.
