Kopa took Kiara to a ledge that overlooked most of the plains of the Pridelands

Kiara: "Kopa, why are we here?"
Kopa: "Listen, Kiara. I need to talk to you. I must leave here."
Kiara: "What? But Kopa, this is your home!"
Kopa: "This was my home...but now I'm not so sure."
Kiara: "What do you mean?"
Kopa: "I don't feel safe here anymore. I'm putting you all in danger. Zira hates me and threatens to kill everyone. But, if I leave, hopefully she'll forget about it."
Kiara: "But Kopa! Where would you go? What about mother and father?"
Kopa: "Kiara, listen. I'm leaving for a little bit. I'll return one day. You need to go back home and tell mother and father that I died."
Kiara: "Oh, Kopa. Will I ever see you again?"
Kopa: "Yes, I promise"

And with that, Kopa walked away. He would return one day...when it was safe.
