MLK Writing Contest - poll

Ok so I offered to be the new host of the fanfic writing contest and instead of objections (other than joke objections by Ushujaa :P) I got a "please do," so to begin with I am going to take a little poll.

The old writing contest was annual and I am not sure if that suits everyone. So I am going to take a poll on the frequency. I may or may not choose the most-voted option, but I will be taking it into account when I make the final decision and start the contest anew.

Let the polling begin! I know you all want to start your entries ;) FYI, the themes will be the same as in the last one, so any submissions that were ready will not go to waste, regardless of this poll's outcome.

I'm going to go with how it was before - because it never stuck on schedule. The previous timing was two weeks of writing and one week of voting. But it always ended up closer to three weeks of writing and one week of voting. So I chose keep it the same because it is effectively the monthly option, but still allowing time for post-deadline.

What I mean is, add a week to the writing time for your option. And then choose.

Wait. So you mean it was every year but only a month with the actual contest running?

What I mean is that the previous two times the contest was held, the deadline was always pushed back by a week. Therefore, a two-week writing period is actually three weeks.

I know it said annually in the last thread, but it wasn't actually annual, Applejack wrote that for dramatic effect on the OP.
And I think it should be two weeks writing time (with maybe tp to a week extension time if necessary), along with a week of voting. Of the options though, the monthly scheme sounds good.

The previous length worked just fine, I didn't think there were any complaints. Did anybody actually write anything for contest #3? I thought the themes were pretty weak, to be honest. If nobody wrote anything, I'd suggest some new topics. Only the Kovu/Kiara fight one seemed like it could possibly fit within 2000 words to me.

Whatever the case, seems like something went wrong with the contest--the two previous contests practically overwhelmed me because I had so much material to look over. This third one still isn't off the ground after three months. :3

I'm going to have to go with monthly. But maybe what this contest needs is more than one person looking after it? Az is right, in that there is usually quite a bit of material to look over. Even without having to do an official judging panel, as in this the members do the voting, an assistant might not be a bad idea. Just putting ideas on the table, though.

I'd be able to assist with this, i'm almost on break and i'll be in Florida but i will have an internet connection down there hopefully. The only reason I wouldn't try to do this on my own is that

A. Snowy is good at this and has experience with contests...

B. It is a lot to keep track of and make sure that everything gets posted.

^ this I had just started mine today but I'd be willing to start over if need be.

I was considering doing the search for water, but that one could be tricky to conclude in 2000 words.
