The morning sun is what woke the young adolescent up. For once, there was not a loud enough bird or wondering animal to do so. The light had hit her eyes hard enough and they opened wearily. Aimee rolled onto her back for a moment and lulled her head before stretching out. Her claws extended from her paws and she reminded herself to put them to use on a tree soon.

Aimee and her older sister, Buffy, had taken shelter on the shaded side of a rock formation that was situated in the Savannah they happened to be venturing through. Since their parents had succumbed to the elements and passed away. Aimee had been left in Buffy's care and the two had been wondering ever since. No harm had come to Aimee though; her sister wouldn't let that happen.

Their relationship was a strong one; even in their grieving over their parents they didn't forget about each other. In fact, they relied upon each other. Now it was about finding a place to live, and perhaps a pride to live with. The safety of a pride was always a good option, seeing as they were female and a little vulnerable.

The younger lioness glanced over at her sleeping sister with a twinkle in her eye. She would of let her sleep but since they were not in a cave and a little exposed Aimee didn't fell one hundred percent comfortable with her surroundings. So, she decided to wake her up. Within a few seconds Aimee had pounced on her.
"Buffyyyy, wake up!" she murmured in whiny cubbish voice.

[Buffy]

Buffy opened her eyes slowly, her vision adjusting to the morning light. She slowly lifted her head to look at her younger sister Aimee, who had graciously woken her up. "Ugh, is it morning already?" She groaned. Before their parents had died, sleeping had been one of Buffy's favourite things. At least that's how she remembered it, things had started to become a bit of a blur. They had been travelling for quite some time, some nights there had been no sleep, some days there had been no food. Luckily they were able to hunt down a small gazelle yesterday, and find a shady place to sleep.

Buffy felt rested enough, but still didn't like waking up. She let out a yawn and stretched her legs, then sniffed Amy, something she did every morning to make sure everything was alright. It had become a bit of a habit at this point, but it it wasn't one she was looking to break. "Did you sleep well?"

Aimee flopped down to the ground next to her sister and smiled at her apologetically.
"Sorry; I would of let you keep on sleeping but we are exposed out on the Savannah" she responded wearily, nuzzling into her. "And I didn't want to be sat here with no one to talk to".

The younger lioness wrapped her forelegs around her sister's neck.
"I slept ok, thanks" she said with a bright, yet still sleepy smile. She let go of Buffy and surveyed her surroundings; wondering momentarily whether there were any other lions about. She doubted they'd be awake this early.

A pride would not be awake, that's for sure. When you're in a pride you don't worry about when to get up. Still, Aimee was curious as to what and who was out there in this unexplored lands. Hopefully nothing hostile.

[Shadowfax]

Nova had been running for what seemed like an age. She had cuts all down her side and a ripped ear with dry blood clinging to her sides. The exhaustion was clear in her eyes and the look of fear was also there. Nova had escaped her former pride, but it had been close. She had lost her friend Vex whilst escaping and her heart ached for her companion. Vex had sacrificed herself so Nova could get away and now.... Nova was alone, but free of the pride she resented so much.

When she came to a small tree in the middle of the Savannah, the young lioness collapsed onto her side panting wildly. She must have ran for atleast a day and her eyes slowly began to close, though she was fearful that she may never wake again.

[Buffy]

Buffy smiled sweetly at her younger sister. "It's okay, I don't mind." As Aimee nuzzled into her, Buffy nuzzled her back. She had always been grateful for her sister, but these days she found herself being even more grateful for her. She couldn't imagine being on this journey without a companion, or worse, having Aimee on this journey without her. Though they had lost their parents, they had been gifted enough to have each other, something Buffy would be eternally grateful for.

Buffy looked around and took in her surroundings. A bright new day was dawning, with new experiences and probably new challenges. It wasn't the life she may have chosen, but it sure was an adventure. Her and Aimee were hoping to find a pride, but so far they had had no luck. Buffy hoped their luck would soon begin to change. The whole 'trying-to-survive-on-a-daily-basis' thing was starting to get a little old. She stood up and stretched her legs, then turned to look at Aimee. "How about we go find something to drink?"

Aimee was glad to know that Buffy wasn't mad at her for waking her up; they didn't argue. At the proposal of something to drink, Aimee licked her muzzle which had become dry.
"Okay!" she replied enthusiastically, welcoming the idea of being on the move again.

She felt a little nervous hanging around sometimes, seeing as they've had close encounters before. The younger lioness staggered to her feet, her legs still a little tired from the night's sleep. After a few steps they regained their strength. She began to amble away, investigating the area as she did so.

[Buffy]

Buffy smiled at her younger sister's enthusiasm. Being young sure had been fun, and from time to time she missed it, but then she recalled at how much she had looked forward to growing up and being able to help out with hunts and go on adventures. If she had stayed a cub forever, she would never have gotten this far. She slowly stood up and stretched her legs and back, shaking her head slightly to wake up. It was so early, there was not a living creature in sight. They should be able to find water with no disturbances.

Aimee had started off before her, and Buffy quickly followed, keeping an eye on their surroundings. "Hey Aimee, wait up!" She said, running after her sister.

Aimee slowed to a respectable pace after her sister shouting out for her.
"Sorry" she responded apologetically but with a smile; she just wanted to see what was out there. On the other hand, if she was alone she would probably be a lot more cautious.

Her sister was a protector of some sort; Aimee sometimes felt invincible when she was around. It only took a dangerous encounter to put her straight again but her naivety always came back. She was still at that sort of age. Aimee felt the ground tremble a little. She looked around and saw a group of elephants a distance away, travelling in the direction they were.

"Maybe they know where the water is!" Aimee said cheerfully. She had met some elephants who were tolerable of them before and assumed all elephants liked lions. "They might even be walking towards it".

As the sun rose in the east, a large dark furred lion awoke from his sleep. He had rested the night behind the shelter of a rock pile as the winds of the previous night had been harsh. He stretched out and roared slightly, beginning to look around him. Nothing but vast Savannah as far as the eye could see. In the distance he saw a dust cloud, made by an elephant heard. Not wanting to be bothered with them he stood up and began running in another direction

Before long his running stopped however. Near here was a tree and under lay a Lioness, a pretty badly beaten one. Part of him said to just run off, the other to help or at least see if she was alive. In the end he opted for the latter. He cursed himself under his breath and walked over to lightly tap her Hey, you ok ? His voice was deep and rough having not spoken in a while

[Buffy]

Buffy smiled gratefully at Aimee. She loved her youthful personality and free spirit. However, running off was not a good idea. Buffy didn't like being far away from her in case something were to happen. Things could be completely quiet and still for one moment and then in the blink of an eye, chaos could erupt and if that happened, she wanted Aimee to be nearby. Perhaps she was being slightly overprotective, but she figured it was better to be safe than sorry. "It's okay." She replied. "Just don't wander off too far."

Buffy felt the ground tremble as well, and soon saw what Aimee was seeing. "Hmm..." She wondered. Logically it would make sense for them to be heading to the water... It was worth a shot anyway. "Alright, let's go." Buffy agreed, changing their direction and following the elephants.
