Simba yawned as he he woke up in the early morning sun. Blinking, he looked around before his eyes fell on Timon and Pumbaa. His two friends, and for that matter, parents, were still asleep. A smile crept into Simba's face when he heard Pumbaa mutter about grubs in his sleep, Timon moving up and down as Pumbaa's stomach rose and fell with his breathing.

At first, Simba thought of waking his friends up, but something stopped him. If he would wake them up, they would be with him for the rest of the day. Normally, he didn't mind, but now Simba wanted to see another friend that they didn't know about. He had met Suri recently, and the two of them had become friends quickly after. But because she was an adolescent lioness, he didn't know how his two adoptive parents would react to her.

Deciding on letting Timon and Pumbaa sleep on, Simba got up and crept away. This wasn't the first time he had disappeared on them.

Suri paced back and forth in the spot that her and Simba usually meet in the mornings. The sun hit her orange-brown pelt as she passed in and out of the shade. Her blue eyes scanned the bushes for Simba.

You see, Suri was left alone in the jungle when she was just a cub. She had to learn to fend for herself. Just before she met Simba, she was on the verge of going insane. Simba came just in the nick of time! The two met near the waterfall when Simba was playing alone while Timon and Pumbaa were out Grub-Huntin'! They quickly became friends. Simba was supposed to be on an all grub diet. Yet, little did they know, Suri always snuck Simba a boar or two from her own hunting trips.

Soon, she saw a golden pelt bob through the leaves. "Simba!" She called out, prancing towards him. Pouncing right on him with a smile, she instantly pulled the cub up and took him to his latest meal. "Look what I found for you!" Pointing at a beautiful brown wildebeast carcass! Simba always told her that it was her favourite. Luckily, an old, sick one came to die here but she put it out of his misery. "Eat up, pal!" Patting him in the back.

Like always, Pumbaa took his sweet time before getting up and eating breakfast. After all, being lazy and sleeping through the morning is one of the fundamental ideas behind the hakuna matata philosophy.

However, when he finally woke up to search for grubs, he came to the realization that Simba had left. "Hey, Timon, have you seen Simba anywhere?" he asked.

Timon yawned and also noticed that Simba was gone. "Hey, where is he?!" the little meerkat exclaimed as he started to look around.

Simba let out a yelp when Suri pounced on him, but he quickly looked up at her, smiling. "Hey, Suri!" he said, smiling as she lifted him up back onto his paws. As she pointed to the wildebeest, his stomach rumbled.

Upon seeing the kill, Simba momentarily felt a flash of fear course though him. He still sometimes had nightmares of the stampede that brought him here, and he was still afraid of live wildebeest.

But this one was dead, and he was hungry. Quickly forgetting his uneasiness, Simba bolted over to the meat, diving his head into it, tearing huge pieces off. "Thanks, Suri!" He said, nearly chocking on the meat, "how did you catch this?"

"I don't know, Timon," Pumbaa replied. He began thinking about what could have happened to his furry companion. "Maybe he got hurt... or worse. We should go look for him."

Suri blushed, "It was sick, and came to the jungle to die.. broken leg I think!" Laughing then tearing off her own little piece. Little did she know, this was the exact wildebeast that Mufasa tripped trying to save Simba. Hell, she didn't even know he was in the wildebeast accident! He never spoke of it.

"It still fought, because it didn't wanna die that way, but once it got settled down he almost thanked me for ending the pain for him." She explained, still knawing on the piece she tore off not 2 seconds earlier. "And your welcome! Whatever you want to eat, just say the name, and I'll catch it for you!" Laughing slightly and finishing her piece.

Simba chewed into the meat eagerly. He thought about Suri's last comment, how she can catch anything he would want her to. Simba believed that she can, but at the same time, it made him feel helpless. He wanted to be able to look out for himself, and not have to rely on anyone. He already believed that if he was bigger and stronger, that he could have prevented the stampede from ever happening and killing his father.

Thinking about that, he got an idea. "Hey, Suri... How would you like to teach me how to hunt as well?" he asked, "because, I would sure love to learn." He looked at her, his eyes full of hope, waiting for her answer.

Suri smiled, "Sure Simba! Just name a time and a place, I'll definitely show you how!" Tearing off another piece. "And maybe when you're a big strong lion, you can take down anything you want!" Giggling, then picturing Young Simba as a strong lion. Somehow, she seemed to like this idea. "And we can leave this jungle and go find a pride, just for us!" The mere memory of her old pride was fading, but Simba seemed to bring them all back!
